Is there a way to test CD burner quality?

Is there a way to test a CD burner to make sure that it is making quality burns? The reason I'm asking is because my Sony CD-RW burner is having trouble recognizing certain CDRs and I'm starting to notice random C2 errors on recently burned CDRs where I never had problems before. The C2 errors are in different places every time I test them, which leads me to believe that it's the drive and not the CDRs. Then, sometimes when I run the test again, there are no C2 errors at all! I'm running Nero 5.5.10.56 with Windows XP and I use Nero CDSpeed to check my CDR quality. I want to make sure that my burner is still performing up to spec because I don't want to burn anymore important CDs if it's time to buy a new burner.

What drive are you using to test for C1/C2 errors?

I'm using the same drive that I burn the CDs on - my Sony CRX320EE. Should I be testing them on a different drive?

If I remember right, that's based on one of Lite-On's combo drives. I'm not really sure how those are for write quality testing.

Is it a combo drive or a CD-Rewriter?
