Hello.. I have a DivX film that is 725mb (nero siad it was 760mb when its on a CD?) I was trying it fit on a 700mb - 80mins cd, I read up how to do it and had a go.

It seemed to work right untill the end when it said (failed) I shut down Nero and put the cd back in.. i open the cd to find that it did seem to work, but it took a long time to load the film, then it siad error and shut down. I tryed once more to make a cd but that same happend.

Anyone know why?
can only some CDs overburn?
I read that you can fit up to 830MB on 1 700mb cd, is that ture?
can DVD & stereo players play over burnt CDs?

Yes some discs over-burn more than others. A 725MB on a 700MB disc is do-able, you just need to find the right disc. What I always do is run the Nero CDSpeed Overburn test first on a disc. This will give you a good idea of exactly how much you can overburn a particular disc. I have found that sometimes even discs in the same spindle have different over-burn times, so I usually run the over-burn test for each big borderline write, just in case. I also find that a slower write speed can help - I even go down to 2x or 4x.

Try Fuji discs manufactured by Taiyo Yuden; from my personal experiences, they overburn the most data over 700MB. Alternatively, Ritek discs can overburn passed 700MB, although not as much as the Fuji/TY discs.

Or you can just buy proper 90min or 99min rated CDs.

This would be the easiest course of action.

You're still 'overburning' according to Nero, but you're not really.

Nero doesn't recognize any disc bigger than 700mb as such.

90 + 99 min discs are burned by tricking Nero into 'overburning' them.

Sure, buy 90 or 99 minute discs if you want to pay extra. It all depends on how many discs you'll be overburning; if the number is a lot then 90 or 99 minute discs is a worthy investment. If this is the only file that you are going to overburn then just stick with 700MB media.
