HP hasn't made a CD-RW or combo drive in ages so I really doubt it.

Yamaha has stopped at 44x and is working on improving write quality.
LG has a 48x drive, but not sure when it'll be released.

Two LG 48X writers have been released, look for these model numbers: GCE-8480B and GCE-8481B.

I too was totally hot over the idea of disc T@2 but once the specifics came out I think it is totally over-rated as a feature. If they could put the image on the label side of the CD that would be a totally different story, but as it stands I fight for every Mb that I can get out of my CD's. Hence, there is no room for a T@2, feature becomes a moot point! :-?

Yamaha will not come out with a 48x writer. Yamaha has stopped at 44x and is currently working on improving write quality. I wouldn't be surprised if Yamaha was working on a DVD burner too.

The Disc T@2 feature is a patented by Yamaha, so I dunno if any other company would include this feature on future CD-RW drives. However, the disc T@2 feature is very useless if you burn full CD's like most of us do.

It would either be a CD-RW/DVD combo drive or a DVD+RW/-RW drive. Or Yamaha could be working on a 44x32x44 CD-RW drive. It's pure speculation on my part, as I have not read anything to back it up any of those ideas. I'll let someone else who knows more about the future of Yamaha tell us what Yamaha is currently working on.

Hey CDRFreak 2003, if you look at Yamaha's history, you will see that they do not exactly kick people's doors down with new offerings. Hey, they did not even have any speed progressions between the 24x and 44x burners (i.e. 32x,or 40x). So, don't hold your breath waiting for one by Christmas or anything like that. I will say that they make a really good product, they just price themselves out of the equation for hobbyists. I have no need for audio mastering modes or disc T@2-ing, though I would gladly accept them as features in a reasonably priced burner. You may have a need for these features, and more power to you if you do! But, IMO you really should not discount some of the other options being proposed to you. I would even suggest that if you are considering a combo drive that you look long and hard at the LG GCC-4320B which is a 32x10x40x CD/16x DVD drive. Or wait a month or two and check out some of the rumored 48x12x48x/16x combos that are said to be waiting in the wings. Just don't sell yourself on some over-hyped technology that might just leave you wanting.

Yamaha won't be coming out with anything new before Christmas.

cdrfreak2003, please stop asking repetitive questions. Thank You.
