Do not buy Ritek disks if you have an LTR-48125W, they are of very low quality. Even worse than CMC. PNY disks are made by Ritek. I have had many problems with Ritek disks in my LTR-48125W.

Ritek's 99 min. CD's are fine when burned at the slower overburn speeds of 4x and 8x. SKY 99 min. disks are made by Ritek.

Many Philips & Memorex 48x discs are made by Ritek too ,but they have outstanding perfomance (similar TY) with firm VS08 ! Maybe you have computer configuration problem..

Ritek does make some good CD's for TDK, Maxell, and other brands. I think it may be your drive or system configuration that's causing the problems. You seem to be one of the few people here bashing Ritek CD's and Imation CD's made by CMC.

i agree, i have a few of those memorex's here, not the TY ones, cause they aren't made in japan, and don't have that black screw on top

If you look at my review you'll see that TDK 40X (Ritek) works very well with both 48125W and 52246W

I've found the Ritek 99 minute discs work great as you indicate. 8x and lower is the key.

As for Sky brand being Ritek, I'm not sure. Maybe the new 40x rated discs are.
Sky has their own plant in Switzerland, but I also just ran Smart Burn on a 2 year old, 16x Sky (branded) 99 Minute disc and got this:

This Disc is designed for CD-RW/COMBO Drive Only.
Disc Type, Material = CD-R, Cyanine
ATIP Lead-in = 96m 43s 33f
Norminal Capacity = 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f)
Disc Manufacturer maybe = ProDisc (90min)
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 32X

Now, Prodisc is just a possibility. I've never known Prodisc to make 99 minute discs before.

99 minute discs are obviously a special/limited production run, so I doubt there's any plant that makes just them. There can't be too many plants in the world that are tooled to make them.

I've had excellent quality from both Ritek & Prodisc in the past.
Either way, I'm a happy man.

Up to two weeks ago I used to have LTR-48125W Lite-On CD-RW drive and I burnt so many CMC 32X disks with trade name Optimum, I never had any problem burning these disks at 48X speed, and now that I have LTR-52 246S (52X24X52) from Lite-On, I am burning the same 32X CMC at 32X speed without any trouble.

I think the key with this thread isn't Ritek, but PNY. In my experience with PNY they sell some quite hopeless media. I had some "Ritek" media by them where the top peeled off, and the serial number was not Ritek's.

MOST Ritek media is very good quality, but I would suggest burning it at 32x rather than full (48/52x) as I would with any Taiwanese media (CMC, Prodisc, whatever). The reason being that the discs are built to a price, and I do not feel that Taiwanese media is high enough quality to stand up to the very fast burns people demand. 32x is only about 30s slower than 48x anyway, and as people will insist on buying cheap Taiwanese drives (LiteOn, Aopen, Asus etc) they have to expect problems like this (not that Plex or Yamaha are any better anymore).

personally, I would not use the memorex media that is made by Ritek ever again.... It's quality is not nearly as good as the TY made memorex's.... atleast when used with my LG8160b
