Why is the Buslink 52x 24x 52x 100% for sure a liteon cd-rw drive and the 48x 12x 48x or 48x 24x 48x is not 100% for sure a liteon cd-rw?

Because there are more companies producing 48x writers. Right now only a few are shipping 52x writers.

Ian if a few comparies are shipping 52 writers couldn't it not be a liteon for 100% sure? :( I just hate the 15% restocking fee if its not a liteon.

imtim83, if your so afriad its not going to be a Lite-On, then pay the extra and buy a genuine Lite-On 52x drive then. Then you'll be sure its a Lite-On. Another possibility is to buy from a retail store like Fry's Electronics that doesn't charge a restocking fee. Fry's is very good with their return policy.

Also, just look for the SmartBurn buffer protection on the box and that will pretty much tell you its a Lite-On drive inside. SmartBurn is a trademark of Lite-On technology.

BuddhaTB ok it has SmartBurn on the box but i never opened it yet sense i am trying to make sure no other better deals come along soon. Plus if it not open no 15$ restocking fee at compusa when you return it. I just wish there was a way to see without opening the box at all if its a liteon cd-rw drive 100% for sure. But sense it has SmartBurn on it which is a trademark of Lite-On technology, like you said, it should be a liteon cd-rw drive. I just wish some model number or UPC code on the box you could tell its liteon cd-rw drive without having to open anything. I wonder if there is a way to tell by the model number or UPC code or something for 100% sure?

On BUSlink boxes, the only way to tell is by which buffer underrun protection the drive uses. Like you said, your box has SmartBurn, so I'm pretty confident that you have a Lite-On drive. The UPC and model number on the BUSlink boxes will not tell you anything about what drive is inside. The only boxes that I've seen with the model # of the CD-RW drive listed on the box are the Cendyne drives.

I have also read that many people have bought the BUSlink 52x24x52 and have gotten nothing but a Lite-On drive. No one else has commented on getting anything different than a Lite-On drive in the BUSlink 52x24x52 boxes.

>> Look at the label on the back of the box. If it says LTR-48125S or LTR-48246S, its a Lite-On. If it says something else, its not.

Then its a crap shoot in what drive you get. If there's no model number on the back, then don't buy the drive.

I'm looking at an external 48x writer from CenDyne right now that is based on an Optorite drive so yes, the same rules apply.

hoxlund i would do that but the person i am helping to get it for someone else does not want to really do that. But i tell them that newegg is a really good online reseller. For some reason they just don't like shopping online really i don't think. I guess because of taking it back is a hassle but it really isn't with newegg you just have to wait a few days. The best part about shopping online is you have a lot bigger selection and can always go to resellerratings.com before you buy from there.

plus i've been shopping with them for about 2 years, i buy all my computer stuff through them, even a refurbised mobo, which is still in my server computer, never even had a remote complaint, or anything but excellent fanatical customer service

hoxlund yep. I was able to return a video card to newegg and get a refund with no 15% restocking fee! I just said i was not really happy with it which i wasn't. It only took a few days. Well i was able to find a liteon well its a buslink on the box 52x 24x 52x at compusa for $69.99 plus tax which made it $76 and something then a $20 mail in rebate so about $56. The new Liteon 52x 24x 52x i just read the review at cdfreaks and it seems to beable to do more audio protection like the plextor cd-rws can but i don't think every little thing but just about. But not sure if the Liteon 48x 24x 48x has a updated firmware to fix these issues on the 48x. I rather liteon have a firmware to allow the 48x to do all the audio protections the 52x can but not sure if thats the case.

imtim83, why don't you just order the drive online for your friend and he can pay you back the invoice price. What's so hard about that? Even if something does happen to the drive, you can call newegg for him since you've dealt with them before. I know your trying to be a good friend, but this topic/thread is starting to get repetitive. Just listen to me and order the drive for your friend and he can pay you back, how hard is that?

BuddhaTB yep but if i want to take a chance i can always get it cheaper. I think the reason my threads go so long is because i ask a lot about every little detail because that the way i am. I am just very techinal on everything lol. I try to know everything possible about a piece of hardware before i buy it so i don't waste that person's money or my own. Thats all. Sorry :( I am just very different than most people.

imtim83, I too like to find out about the specs and details of whatever I'm buying too. However, if you keep doing too much research, then the drive will become sold out and you've just missed an awesome deal.

I know you already bought the BUSlink 52x24x52 drive for your friend. Just give him the drive because it will be a Lite-On drive. You can search the net, but everyone else has said that the BUSlink 52 is a Lite-on and no one else has received anything different for the 52x model.

I just wanted to see how the 48x were and so on just in case i could get something cheaper sense the postmark date on the rebate is Dec. 21 so i can still wait for more deals if i want or to see if any 48x come in stock. The reason i was trying to maybe if possible get a cd-rw drive cheaper is because their monitor just broke and wanted to try to have them beable to get a new monitor too. They are using my spare 14 inch monitor right now but they had a 15 inch monitor.

Best Buy has an awesome deal this week on the BUSlink 48x drive for $20 after rebates. Too bad they sold out really fast and you'd have to be very lucky to find one at your Best Buy. Even for $20, it doesn't matter who made the drive because at that price, its a steal of a deal. It'll be atleast decent and last you for atleast a year too. If your short on funds, I would just wait for the next few weeks, as more good deals are bound to appear with the holiday shopping period going on. If I do find any more awesome deals on CD-RW drives over the next few weeks, I'll post it in the forum and private message you too.

Just buy it on Saturday when the next week's ads come out. And then just pricematch it to the sale price. However, you can't pricematch if there is a rebate. The best suggestion is to go early on Sunday's and you have a really good chance of getting the deal.
