If they have no stock when the doors open on Sunday and its the first day of the sale, I would go complain to the manager of the store. They should atleast give you a rain check for the item or reserve the product for you when a new shipment of the item does come in. I'm not saying Best Buy will do either of these procedures, but its worth a try since managers will try to make the customers happy.

Also, you could order the item online and select store pick-up as the shipping option. This will almost guarantee that when you go to Best Buy to pick up the item, it'll be in stock and they will also charge you the current sale price. For example, if you see something good on Saturday for the Sunday Ad, I would place an order at BestBuy.com. Then go pick up the item on Sunday or Monday and Best Buy will charge you the sale price of the item listed on Sunday's Ad. This method of buying items at Best Buy will insure that they have the item in stock and the price you want to pay.

since i work for best buy, this is what happens, every sunday before doors open we walk the entire ad, checking to make sure the price is right, and that we have it stocked, if we don't have it stocked, then we put out a raincheck box, this should be happening in all stores, let me know if its not happening in your store

I just edited my post above with some more info that can help you out on future Best Buy purchases.

hoxlund ok well i understand the raincheck but what if bestbuy never gets the item in during the ad? To beable to send the rebate in you need the UPC code.

well if you ordered online like on saturday, and the store doesn't have any in stock, you won't get that item necessarily, cause they can't send items on the truck that fast it takes at least 3 days, from the time our order system puts the order in, to the time it gets in our stores

well we still keep your rainchecks in our computers, and when the first one comes in, they put it on raincheck, first come first served basis

if we finally get one in and its after the rebate date, im sure you could go up to customer service and just ask for a instant rebate

hoxlund i would be surprised if bestbuy would give me a instant rebate if the item did not come in time for the rebate. Do you really think they would do that?

Okay, what do you say we all chip in and buy imtim83 a LiteOn just so we can put an end to this damn thread? I have never see so much going round and round over as simple a matter as buying a drive. And if I understand correctly, imtim83 already has a drive in hand. He just doesn't want to open the box. Arrrggghhhhh!!!!!!

Okay, done ranting. No hard feelings, I hope. :D I did read your post where you said you have a personality that likes to have every 't' crossed and 'i' dotted.

When posts get out of hand like this, honestly, yes it does get tiring and annoying. 38 posts and counting about whether or not a drive is a Lite-On, is just WAY too much. I know we're getting off subject too, but I would like nothing more than imtim83 to be happy with having a Lite-On drive in his possession, so everyone else can move on with their lives.

imtim83, Please Be A MAN and for the sake of CDRLabs and open the box so you can see a Lite-On drive in your hands.

Sorry if this post sounds harsh. But I just feel this thread is going around in a big ol' cricle with no ending in sight.

Thats what i am going to do and been what i was going to do if i could not find any more good deals. I never brought a IBM 75 gxp series HD and thats because of storagereview's forums. I saw all kind of problems poping up. Thank goodness i didn't buy one and made sure. I just don't like wasting money thats all. Also i like to know every little detail about a piece of hardware because if i don't then i could get taken advantage of. People everyday get taken advantage of in the computer world because they don't know or didn't make sure before they brought it.

Not all buslink 52x24x52 are liteon.

I just received one yesterday from www.microcenter.com that appears to be aopen (sticker says aopen, justlink, firmware version, appearance, etc).

Unfortunately, it can't be flashed with the aopen firmware becuase the id string was changed.

Even though the buslink website clearly describes a liteon, it might not be.

Since it only cost $20, and it would $10 to send it back, I am not returning it.

It seems to work ok, but I don't think it has the same copy protection capabilities as liteon.

this thread is nearly 2 months old and was created back when all buslink 52x24x52 were lite-ons, so u can't really compare then to now.

ok, now i have a question, i now work at staples, and the Buslink 52x external is new low price of $99

what are the chances that this is a liteon?

the model number on the front says something like rw-52 something

probably not a Lite On.

i think there is an Optorite drive with a similar name, or maybe MSI?
