i bought a new dvd rom. and put it in my computer. and my PC didn't recognize any of the drives. then i took one drive out and then it will recognize one. same results with either drive..

what can I do to get my computer to recognize both the drives together?

I know this is a silly question, but did you set the jumpers correctly? I mean that you might have possibly set both as either slave or master, or even had them previously set as C-select and then set the new one as slave/master or vice-versa. I have even actually set the ribbon connector in backwards before when installing a drive . It really pays to step back take a breath and re-check the obvious sometimes. Just a suggestion, and good luck with your problem.

Does the BIOS recognize both? Or is it a Windows issue.

Honestly, it sounds like jumpers to me too. Try another IDE cable otherwise.

but I can switch the jumpers and everything. but they can only work SOLO. not together. I've tried every combination. and it doesn't work.

say if i hook 2 of them up none work. then if i unplug one the other one will work...

Did you try putting one of them on the primary IDE controller with the jumper set to slave and the other on the secondary IDE controller with the jumper set to master?
