Transfer between 2 CD-RW's

I have a question about transfering between 2 CD-RW drives. On the desktop system I have an HP 9100 burner and on a laptop I have a Sony Veritas 410 burner. Is it possible to format a CD-RW on the desktop then take that CD-RW and place it in the laptop and record or drag and drop more files on the same CD-RW disc? Then put those new files back on the desktop. Or vice versa format a CD-RW on the laptop then add more files from the desktop to the same CD-RW disc and transfer back to the desktop.

I know you can read between burners but what about recording?

Is there special software that you need? Do you need to run the same program on both systems?

Maybe the easiest way is to network or serial link the two computers?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It ought to work fine as long as you use the same packet-writing software and version on both machines. (I'm assuming you want to use packet-writing software since you mention "drag and drop" files).

Intimidator:

Your HP 9100 is quite slow (it rewrites at 4x, so formatting a CD-RW disc for packet writing will take about 20 min).

If your main purpose is transferring files, I would go for a network. Both desktop and laptop NICs are quite cheap, and if the two boxes are not too far away, you can use a cross-over cable. If you also have an Internet connection, consider buying a router (~$50 for a cable/DSL Ethernet router with four ports and a print server); see www.practicallynetworked.com and www.wown.com.
