Is there any program out there can help with CD layouts? What I mean is I have about 20GB of data,with odd-ball files sizes (50-429 MG), and I want to have the files laid out onto cd's with a minimal waste of space on each cd. I do have WinRAR, but would rather not split the files up if I can avoid it. Trail-and-error in windows explorer just takes to long with this much data!

There is at least one other one I've run into in my travels, but I didn't download it or use it, and I can't remember it now. To tell the truth, I haven't tried the Ignition optimizer either. I have to keep my files organized by their content (e.g. Christmas 2002 photos), and can't mix them up in order to make most efficient use of CD-R capacity. However, it looks like Ignition should do the job.

Whoa, cool! Thanks! Didn't think there actually would be a program for this!

cfitz, that program rocks! It's exactly what I needed! The only bad thing is it just copies the files instead of moving them (not good with 40GB of data), but oh well! It's a heck of a timesaver!

You are welcome. By the way, for anyone following along, Ignition is freeware.

As for copying rather than moving files, while it is inefficient, it is probably safer in case you make a mistake. If you want to avoid the copy, you can purchase the CopyToCD add-on and burn directly to CD-R:

I guess Ignition is the hook to get you to buy CopyToCD.

Actually, what I meant was I'd like the program to cut-and-paste the files into the new folders it creates. As it is, it makes a duplicate of the files on your drive, orginized in ~700MG folders called CDxx. Cut-and paste would be faster with very large amounts of data (like what I've got), and wouldn't mean you need 2x the disk space. As for burning, I'll stick with Nero!
