Verbatim/Cendyne 48x12x48 (AOpen 48x12x50) major problems

I have purchased three of these drives, one a rebadged Cendyne, and am having major problems with them.

First, two of the drives cause a complete system lock-up (and reboot) ONLY when the "speed-boost" feature is enabled. This occurs when I try to run Nero CDSpeed or read any CDs at the "50x max" speed. I have tried several different discs (TDK, PNY, Phillips, Sony, and one commercially-pressed audio CD).

Secondly, one of the drives experiences a major "read" speed drop (like 43x down to 6x) while completing Nero CDSpeed, again only when the "speed-boost" feature is enabled. Sometimes the drop is only momentary, then it recovers, and other times it plummets at the end of the test.

I have flashed all three drives to the latest firmware version, downloaded from Cendyne's website. I have also tried them in two different computers.

Has anyone experienced any of these issues? Any ideas? Thanks for any assistance, before I return these back to where I purchased them!

Easy there, MCKComputerWorks. That is three times you have posted this message now. Twice in two other threads and now you have started a new thread for it. Please don't make multiple posts. People will respond if they have anything to say.

sorry, not trying to offend. My other two posts (each within different threads with different specific subjects) are now buried. I thought by starting a new thread, with the "exact" topic, it would help, but I guess not.

Thanks anyway!

(BTW, cfitz, are you the moderator of this thread? Just wondering.....)

Nope, just a curmudgeon... :)

Matt, Boone and Ian are the official moderators for this forum, although in practice I think Ian does most of the actual moderating. The moderators for each forum are listed at the top of the forum's topic page:
