Mitsumi is back with another new CD-RW.

Mitsumi does make their own drives, they have their own drive motor and pickup head I believe. Whether all of their parts will be in the drive I don't know.

Usually for Liteon drives, you can see the white chassis showing @ the side of the drive.

I finally see the Mitsumi drive today, first I thought it was made by Mitsumi but after some look @ the drive, I am 97% sure it's made by BTC.

If you still have an old Creative 52x CDROM drive made by BTC, you can compare the drive's label that has SN, PN, firmware version, and mfg. date all on separate piece of label. Also, there are 3 sets of pins to the right of the power connector which is very identical to the Creative's.

I might have time to test the drive this or next week.

The firmware version is 0019.

I was going to say it looked like a BTC myself, and having had a look at those pics I'd say it's a certainty. The serial badge on the top is identical to a BTC, and the LED/emergency holes are identical as well. It's a BTC folks.

Not that that's a particularly bad thing IMHO. I've been testing a BTC 48x and have had no problems with it, media compatibility is not bad at all and write quality, whilst a little conservative about the times it chooses to slow the burn down if it thinks the C1 errors are increasing (for example, Ritek 40x media burned at 48x, slows to 32x CLV at around 68 minutes, at which point the C1 count has only risen to around 17 from an average of 1.2) is high. I see no reason why the 52x should be different. Mind you, the BTC drives are just about the cheapest around (I've seen the 48x in the UK for about $40) so Mitsumi shouldn't be applying a premium to these.

The chipset is Mediatek, for those interested.

No, it looks surprisingly similar. Look again. Remove the track forward button and widen the eject button... it sure looks like a BTC to me. It having firmware version 0019 was a dead giveaway as well. Hey Razor, would you mind sending me that firmware? This BTC works with mtkflash.
