I seem to be quite energetic tonight, so here's the firmware.

Cool, I don't think I've ever seen a PDF review before, but it is not a bad idea...

hmm

I have this BTC 52x burner also, but with firmware 0012. I tried downloading from the link you provided for 0019 but it's invalid.

Dave, do you think this firmware will work for the BTC with the stop/play and fww buttons? I ask because the mitsumi drive only has an eject button, so I'm wondering if the firmware might mess up the function of the two buttons. What do you think?

Thanks,
Nick

Oops, I missed your link above, yes, it does not work...

Well, we still haven't confirmed that this drive is a BTC for sure. The only way to know for sure is to try. If you tryt it, then you can always flash back to 0012 if 0019 fails. I bet that the Mitsumi drive just has the second button covered up by the faceplate.

Well I have to say that the results do look uncannily like my BTC 48x.

* Audio extraction 40x
* CDRW read speed 32x
* Dodgy 99m disc reading
* The write speeds for various media are identical (apart from Prodisc that'll burn 48x on this writer, although my Prodisc discs are 40x rated so that may explain that one).
* Mediatek chipset (presumably the BURNProof implementation is Superlink, with no media detection switch?).

Sadly the 48x cannot be overclocked to 52x, or else I'd have been able to test the firmware out :(

Bad news, I have got a bad burner, it doesn't burn correctly. Whenever I try to burn @ whatever speed, the drive spins up and spins down continueously. Burns can be successful but the disc burnt is...

So the testings might come a bit later (a day or two).

More testings are here:

I don't have any high speed RW discs, so I am not going test for the RW speed. But this drive uses P-CAV for RW.

My next target will be the MSI 52xRW, I will test it once my workplace has one.

LOL i clicked it and IE doesn't seem to know about .rar it tried to open it - got a window full of junk.

RazOrX:
the .rar file is damaged - gives me a diagnostics message - unexpected end of archive.
won't extract.
downloaded twice just to make sure it wasn't a bad download.

OK, I tried downloading that file from Netfirms, it works for me, file is ok, I un-rar it, no error. But I have uploaded to another place, try this {{{but set IE's web address to about:blank}}} because free Geocities web acc. don't allow link leaching.

Please tell me if this doesn't work.

It's working fine for me at this time. Either you fixed it or there is something wrong with dodecahedron's and Scour's setups.

Hello!

After Í´ve read the test, I think, this writer is not more than an average writer. I don´t understand, that Mitsumi doesn´t make it´s own drives :cry:

Its cheaper to relabel someone elses. Even Plextor does that now.
