HELP: Connecting LiteOn USB2 through Firewire

I recently bought a LiteOn LXR-40122C USB2 which has a build in USB2 adapter. My laptop only has USB1.1 and it would cost £40-£50 to buy PCMCIA USB2 adapter for it. But I alredy have Firewire PCMCIA adapter and was wondering if it is possible connecting the CDRW through it.It would save me some money this way.

There are two ports at the back of the CDRW drive - one is USB (which my CDRW actually uses) and the second one is a 36pin port which is covered with a rubber stop (but you can take it off and the port is there). Like in the pcture below which I found in the review section for an earlier model of this CDRW (but in this picture the 36pin is used and the USB port is coverd with a stop)

I want to know if the covered 36pin port can be used to connect the CDRW through Firewire or does the covered port means that it doesn't work?

All views will be welcome. Thanks

Even if the 36-pin port did work, you would need Lite-On's proprietary FireWire adapter cable (see Ian's review of LXR-24101A). Such cables cables may be hard to find, and they needn't be cheap enough.
