Yes, run the ones force ASPI installs. I have a few programs that won't work like EAC and a few others. Most things use their own layer now but it might save you some grief and doesn't seem to do anything to programs that don't need it or hurt XP.

I agree.

Install the one from ForceASPI.

Set a System Restore Point if you want before hand, just incase.

If everything works fine, do NOT bother installing ASPI.

Han, would you mind elaborating on your answer? The reason I ask is that I would like to install CD Doctor, however I understand you need an ASPI layer to run this software. I only have Nero's system ASPI layer installed and everything works fine currently. I have a LTR-52246S in a USB 2.0 case, a Plextor 4824TU external and an internal Pioneer DVR-104 and Samsung 40X CD-ROM.

However, I noticed a number of posts on this forum warning against installing an ASPI layer so I have yet to do so. If you (or someone else) could explain some of the potential pitfalls, I would greatly appreciate it. The last thing I want to do is to create system problems where none currently exist just to be able to run a cd error checking program.

Thanks,

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

'Nuff said.

But if you have a program that needs it, then yeah, install it.

CD Doctor needs an ASPI driver to work (at least right now). This tool is so useful that its worth doing.
