WinXP fresh install - no other software just nero 5.5.107b latest
samsung SW-224B R205 - latest rom
harddisc Seagate barracuda ATA 5 120GB
512MG PC133 SDRAM
asus A7V-E Motherboard
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 900 - running at 990
using asus bios setup to overcloak 10%
both burner & HDD using ata-100 cable to connect to MB
harddisk defragmented using diskeeper

primary master - Seagate barracuda
secondary master - samsung SW-224B

nero infotools says
primary master - dma on
secondary master - dma on

i did disable dma in bios and activate pio mode 4 - as supported by samsung burner.

all burning process = problem in middle it says write error even when samsung burner have justLink activated to prevent buffer underrun

I used nero 5 with win98 128K pc133 sdram with 20GB 4400rpm hdd last year while running some other program and nero can burn for max speed 24X using the same burner and claim it prevent 54 buffer underrun error using JustLink with samsung burner ,
now with with WinXP and 4 times more sdram, larger and faster HDD it can't even burn full cd at 4X - it work if i burn less then 200MB only ..........

don't work even if i use image .nrg or .iso ,
don't work with track at once nor disc at once.

Is it with WinXP ? i know they have build in burner using roxio plug
. i did try disable it , after many failure , still no luck.

any suggestion , help is much apreciated ,

err just don't suggest me to go back to win 98 8)

why disable DMA?

you should enable DMA in the BIOS.
if the drive doesn't support UDMA, then winXP will (should) set it to Multi-Word DMA mode 2, which is much better than PIO Mode 4.

check these FAQs:
How to enable DMA in Windows XP (with pictures)
Problems enabling DMA in Windows XP
What are DMA and UDMA ? especially the links at the last post.

I have same problem.
I used Me and a samsung SW-224b and it worked greate.
I put the 224b in my new XP machine and now I can´t burn any discs.
I got "write error" after 50% burning with nero 5.5.
I´ve tried everything but I always get the same error.
Even in simulating mode.
Have you find out whats your problem?

Try disabling XP's built-in burning engine:

1. Open "Services": Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services

2. Find "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service" and double-click it

3. Set the "Startup type" to "disabled"

4. Reboot

You should also look through KCK's InCD burning guide in the FAQs:

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=9572

While not specifically related to your problem, it has a bunch of information about removing the remains of burning programs that may interfere with InCD and might also interfere with Nero.

Finally, try upgrading to the latest version of Nero (which is now 5.5.10.15a - at least for a few more days - not 5.5.10.7b)
