Sounds good. Must be nice to take out your fustration on a crappy @$$ CD-RW drive. I'm glad I never had to do that myself.

Go pick up a Lite-On drive, as you can never go wrong with Lite-On. :D

Unfortunally I have been lured by the Low cost of a drive before. All though it was 2 years ago and the drive cost 130 dollars after rebate! Acer 8X (got so hot during burns I had to move it to the middle of a 3 sections of 5 1/2" external bays just to keep it cool enough to burn more that 3 cd-r's in a row) ie (Benq) whatever stay away far away! :) My next burner was an LG 8320 I picked LG in part becouse of the steller review found heare at CDRLabs. My current is the LG 8520 a great performer and quiet for such a fast drive. I recomend LG! But I have heard good things about Light On also. I feel your pain in onwership and your JOY in destroying a pitifull example of a supososed cd burner!!! Pun intended!

Wow, Id proably toss it in the trash or donate it to Goodwill (like I did with some old motherboards and soundcards) before I take a hammer to it. Can you post pictures of what it looked like after you destroyed it? LOL :D

There really is a hard and fast rule to the computer hardware biz:

You get what you pay for.

It's gotten harder to find good CD/DVD drives, though Sony, Toshiba, and Pioneer still make good ones. I bought a Lite-On this past week after looking things over (I wanted an SPDIF out, and it had that among other features), I don't know that it's the perfect drive, but `tis good so far. It's worth spending $40-50 mail order to get a good drive, and it's worth spending $100-120 to get a CD-RW if you know you're going to keep it a few years, or have friends you can sell it to when you buy a DVD writer. I'll only buy Yamaha and Plextor CD-RW drives these days for myself, perhaps Sony if I find a deal for a friend. It's just not worth skimping on if you value your rig.

Yeah, but Cyberdrive hardly has a bad reputation particularly. I have one (the 32x) and it's a perfectly decent burner. I think neptun3s got a bum drive that's all.

A friend has the CW058D, he said it´s a real good drive, better than his LiteOn 24103s
