Liteon and RMAs

Hi,

My Liteon (40125W) just bit it after less than a year. (Was made 4.2002.)

What is liteon's RMA policy like? Anyone had any good or bad experiences with it?

I replaced it with a TDK 48x24x48 drive ($65 after rebate from compusa. That might include MN sales tax.) that appears to be a liteon. The TDK works great. Much better than the liteon ever did. Makes me wonder if I had a bad drive from the start.

Anywho, I'd like to get my liteon rma'd so I can give it to my nephew.

I did several RMAs with Liteon, just call their office and go to their tech support section. Request RMA, then they will eMail you the form, then you can fax back or eMail the form back.

Their number is 408 - 935 5353.

They usually ship via UPS ground (at least to Canada). Turn around time is about 2 weeks, as usual.

Is there a compiled list of which makers (LiteOn, Aopen....) produce what drives (Memorex, Sony....)?

Well LiteOn wants me to hook the thing up again and run a utility and return the results to them. I really don't want to lock up windows again.

Update: They now want me to contact newegg and do a replacement thing with them. Fair enough. I even found my original order in newegg's order status page. I've owned the liteon for longer than I thought. 5.23.2002. Still, it is less than a year.

Now to see what newegg has to say. Haven't had to return anything to them before.

What is the program that they are having you run?

smartburn.zip is the file name. Or they want me to give them the nero log file. Since nero chokes to death on the drive to the point I have to task manager kill it I don't think I'll be able to give them that.

And newegg has yet to respond to my email. Haven't even told me that they got it.

Lovely. Time to hunt down their phone number.

A fellow Minnesotan. Hows it going?

Not too bad now that it isn't insanely cold.

That second cold snap after the first warmup is always the worst.

Woohoo! Newegg has a RMA thing where you just click a few things and if the product is still under warranty they tell you how to rma it.

Nice.

Time to send that bad boy back.

Once I finally mailed my CD-RW back to Newegg I finally got my replacement.

It took about 10 days for the round trip.

My 40125 was replaced with a 52x24x52. Which means that my brother will have a faster cd-rw than I do.

Oh, well. I like newegg's RMA service.
