Discwasher CD cleaner
Posted: Mon Mar 03, 2003 12:59 pmI have often used Discwasher CDL2, wet-dry brush disc cleaner, for CD and DVD drives and, as far as I know, never had a problem. However, I just used it in a new Yamaha CRW-F1 drive without thinking to reduce the read speed (which I think can be done on this machine).
The drive read the cleaning disc at high speed and made a loud slapping noise. It ran for about 15 seconds before I could shut it off. Might this have damaged the laser or some other part? It does seem to be working fine, i.e., disc speed is normal and verification is always successful.
