what brand is this CD/RW?

My son purchased a CD/RW from Radio Schack(as he had some unused credit that was due to expire, if not used promptly). It is in a box labled "I/O Magic", and when I looked at the CD/RW itself, the sticker said "I/O Magic". So, I assume, this is the brand? The reason I ask, I've never seen it listed anywhere in this forum, and a search didnt reveal anything either.
thanks,

It is probably made by Benq or BTC. Run Nero InfoTool and tell us the identifier string and firmware version.

Does it look like this as listed on Radio Shack's web site?

(from www.radioshack.com )

If so, it is a Benq. Look here for more information:

The row of slots along the bottom is a dead giveaway for Benq.

I have an old, old version of NTI software that came with a 2x Memorex drive from years ago. It did the job, but naturally has been surpassed since then. I don't know how the updated NTI software compares to Nero. Most people seem to like Nero best, but perhaps you could give us your opinions?

OK, will report back sometime(once we have things figured out!) I know my son has already burned a few CD's with it. Since I have the Lite-on, with the Nero software, we will play around with them and see how we like each. We have a few Fuji 24x CD/R's, and I know on my Lite-on, I burned up to 40X speed fine, music sounds ok, but havent tried to check for the "errors" you guys have been giving with your reports(I'll have to do some more reading). I do know on his first CD he tried to burn with the Fuji's, he tried at 40X, and showed to complete the burn with all the song titles, but when he went to play the CD, only about 3/4 of the songs were on the disc. Tried another CD at a 12X speed, and all songs were recorded and played like they were supposed to. I do believe he read a little, and did a firmware upgrade before the second attempt. So, I dont know if the firmware upgrade or the slower 12X speed were responsible for the success. We will report what we find, when we have more information. Thanks,

Was he burning from image or direct, "on-the-fly" copying, or burning from HDD files (*.WAV or *.mp3)?

I've had stuff like real good until near the end making "on-the-fly" copies CD-A) of purchased, "pressed" I guess they are called, with good equipment (Ahead Nero, Toshiba SD-M1612 and Yamaha CRW3200E (opposited IDE channel)). So if he was doing direct copies, image copying may work better at the default higher speed.

He had downloaded files from Kazaa(mp3), and burned them to this CD.
