It's actually the drive's EXACT-Rec technology limiting your writing speed. The only thing you can do is try other media.

Here is the guide for 98:

You might want to check the FAQ section as a whole:

Then it is probably the media limiting your burn speed as Ian suggested. What discs are you using, brand and speed?

Never heard of them. Do you have a link to them? Where are you from, and what other brands are available to you?

Try the Verbatim DataLife and the Imation, and see if they do any better for you.

By the way, are you aware of and using CD Speed (www.cdspeed2000.com) for help with testing?

No, as I said before, its EXACT-Rec doing it.. not BURN-Proof.

No, it isn't the buffer underrun protection that is causing this, and you definitely do not want to disable buffer underrun protection. As Ian noted, it is EXACT-Rec that adjusts/limits writing speed in order to make better quality burns. You can trust Ian. He knows his stuff. After all, he founded this site and writes most all of the reviews here. :D

There have been a surprising number of posts from your neighborhood lately. It's good to see.

Careful.
The Imation CDrs in Jordan are probably made by CMC.

My experience is that most, if not all, Imation discs are made by CMC these days (of course that could vary in other parts of the world). But Imation's CMC discs seem to be one of the better grades of CMC. So, lacking anything better to try, they are worth a shot.
