Does LG GCE-8520B 52/24/52 CD-RW support RAW burning?

Hi, first time poster, long time reader here.

I just recently made a new computer (about 1 week ago), and I bought the LG cd writer for a cheap price.

My question is whether this cd writer supports raw burning? Like backing up legitimate CDs. I'm not here to discuss pirating etc., but here to discuss the feature of this writer, so please stay on topic.

Thanks,

Look on the features page:

Nero InfoTool reports that it does support RAW SAO, RAW SAO 16, RAW SAO 96, RAW DAO 16 and RAW DAO 96:

CloneCD also reports it is capable of raw writing:

And Ian's text confirms that it does EFM correctly:

Thanks to its MediaTek chipset, the GCE-8520B can do EFM encoding correctly. Using CloneCD version 4.2.0.2, I was able to reproduce older SafeDisc 2 protected titles like Max Payne and even some of the newer ones like Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. I tried it with AWS on and off and all of the discs were playable in my Lite-On LTD163 DVD-ROM, AOpen 52x CD-ROM and Pioneer DVD-106S DVD-ROM drives.

Of course if you are just copying normal discs without copy protection or features like CD+G, you don't need the raw modes anyway.

Thanks, this is my first cd burner and I wanted to make sure I had a good one :)

Now, one more question, when I burn from my DVD rom (16x) to my cd writer, the max speed it about 24x.

I think it has something to do with the fact that my dvd rom cant read fast enough to write at 48x correct?

and also, clonecd states that my dvd rom doesnt support 96 (something)...I forgot what the exact line of text was.

anyways, thanks for your help. who knew that there was so much about cds to talk about!
