yamaha 4416s help req

i bought a used yamaha 4416s scsi from ebay i tried to burn an 80 min
cdr with some data about 500 megs worth using nero it performed simulation ok then went on to burn but when it said complete lead in lead out stage then complete it stopped i had to do a control alt del and it said
nero not responding then i treid easy cd creator similar proble and again
with a cdrw disk is the yamaha drive fussy over media im using a media called multi play tech 32x cdr 700mb would someone please advise
what i could try the guy who sold me the drive said it was mint although he has had it three years could it be the media my other drive a liteon
has no problem with the media i use

It could just be worn out, that is around a 1998 drive and their quality at that point wasn't what it is today. It might just not recognise that media properly also.
The best media you could get when it was current was the USA TDK certified plus dark blue stuff. If you can find any similar to it it might like it better.
Get some Fuji somewhere and see if it works OK with it, that's the best current media for most drives. If it keeps doing it it's either dead or naybe your SCSI card doesn't like it or something like that, unless it's IDE, but I'm pretty sure they were all still SCSI then.

thanks for reply it says 1999 on drive old now i bought it cheap as a stop gap really ill try tdk or fugi like you said i guess they dont recognise 80 min cdrs then i wonder if its possible to oc it with other firmware or at least try and improve it

If your trying to burn a 80 all the way out that might be it. I believe my 4260 would overburn, but I don't think 80 minute cdr's were out yet when it was new.
You might want to do a big search on that drive and see what comes up.

I have the same model. Does not like 80min media, and mine won't even write to it at all. Works great with 74min, though.

thanks for reply what brand cdr's have you found that work well branded
or unbranded media makes etc
