CD-RW burnt, but showing as blank ?

Hi,

I have easy cd 5.0 with the update to 5.3.4(?)
Windows 98se
Samsung SM-348B combo

I am a newbie to this burning lark and getting confused.

I have sucessfully burnt 1 data CD-RW, and created loads of CD-R coasters :-)

On doing another CD-RW, data - close session not cd, everyting seemed to go ok. But using windows explorer on the same machine, the CD-RW shows up blank, whereas Easy CD shows it as having one track and 50 meg of data.

What is happening or more likely what have I done wrong.

Also what would people reccommend as the best make of CD-R to go with this drive ?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to CDRLabs, scatcat! :D

An update to 5.3.5 has been released for ECDC; you might want to download it.

What brand and speed rating are the CD-R and CD-RW discs you have been using?

When you read back the CD-RW in the computer and saw that Windows Explorer said that it was blank, did you read it back in your CD-RW drive, or did you read it back in a separate CD-ROM and CD-RW drive?

I am also concerned about those CD-R coasters; what is happening with them?

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

I will check out the update. I have already updated 5.0 to the 5.3.5 so I will do that aswell.

The CD-RWs are upto 48x by TDK.

I burnt it and then tried to read it all on the same drive (I've only go the one). Explorer just shows nothing when you click on the CD icon. Whereas Disk properties of EasyCD shows the data.

The CD-Rs where (hahaha) a make called MMORE. I tried to burn them in Direct CD. They either showed nothing, or totaly locked my machine, causing me to reboot. By the time I uninstalled DirectCd and installed EasyCD they were all dead.

I plan to buy some higher quality ones and try again.

thanks for the help LiteOnGuy

Yes, it indeed sounds like a media problem. Media made by Taiyo Yuden (such as Fuji in the U.S.) has a very good reputation.

Might be window's built in UDF reader causin the DirectCd coasters

When i tried ECD+DirectCD recently, all the disc's i tried 2 format were coaster

But after using MsConfig & clicking the advanced button & swithchin of the built in reader, everythin was ok

U could try that

BaNzI

Hi thanks for all he help.

Last night I completly erased the disk, and reburnt it.

The same thing happened, it was invisible to explorer. I ejected the disk,
put it back in, and it then could be read by explorer.

I burnt some other things on other disks and they all reacted the same!
So it looks like I'm sorted :-)

I told you I was a newbie...... I think I will :

1. Steer clear of Direct CD.
2. Buy GOOD quality CD-Rs in future.
3. Come back here when those CD-Rs turn into coasters ;-)

Thanks again everyone.
