RecordNow 6.7 Update to dual layer support

I have a BenQ DW822A, with latest dual layer firmware installed (8k3c?). I've downloaded an update to Recordnow via a link to Sonic Taiwan that was posted on BenQ support site.

When I run the update it first detected that an old version was installed and attempted to update it, but then failed. After that I try to run it and it says it is an update to version 6.7 which is not installed, so asks me to insert the version 6.7 install disk which I do. Sometimes it gets past this, othertimes it doesn't. When it does it doesn;t recognize the DW822A installed in my system and so won't proceed.

I had trouble flashing the firmware on my dw822a - eventually had to install it in another PC to get it to work. Seems to be some issue with it and my PC. I've read a post noting issues with the VIA ide driver - maybe that has something to do with it as my machine is running a VIA IDE manager app.

Anyway - have you heard of any similar problems updating the BENQ DW822A version of RecordNow 6.7, and/or have any suggestions on what I might try to get updated the latest with DL support.

Thanks

Are you using the latest PX engine?

Hi, no I haven't updated the the px engine since I installed version 6.7.0.

Would this make any difference? Version 7.2 installer uninstalls version 6.7.0. during the process of installing itself, but then it says it failed to detect the required CD/DVD drive and aborts the install - so I am then left with a machine with 6.7.0 thats been uninstalled during the process of installing 7.2, and 7.2 fails so no version of Recordnow left on my system. To even try and upgrade to 7.2 I first have to install 6.7.0 again...

Not sure why the installer for version 7.2 fails to find my BENQ DW822A since version 6.7 found it OK to write to?

In reply to your first question about DL support for RN6.7. Sonic tech support told me 6.7 would not be supporting DL. You either need MyDVD 6.0 or RN 7.2.

Looks like you are trying to update to 7.2 but I just thought I would share what I learned about RN 6.7. I have always had good luck with RN for my very simple tasks but I do not think I will upgrade. I did get a deal on MYDVD 6.0 and may use if for some of the DL support.

Thanks, BENQ DW822A was upgradeable to Dual Layer with a recent firmware update - BENQ advertised this as a coming feature when they were selling them, and to support DL they have a free upgrade to RN 7.2 (6.7 came in the box with the drive).

Hopefully someone will have some clues on what I can try.

I have the same problem

I encountered exactly the same problem as described by AaronM javascript:emoticon(':(')

I have had a very good conversation with a Benq support guy,
here in the Netherlands (where I live).
But to no avail.

I have tried to do the install tens of times with different drivers,
Windows patch levels etc.

The last thing I still want to do is to try the upgrade on a completely
different system, where I have to install my DVD drive first....

I think it might have something to do with my VIA KT133A chipset
and IDE drivers for that Chipset...

My systems specs:
Via KT133A chipset
Athlon 1333Mhz

:( :( :(

Thanks

Thanks Klaas - nice to know I'm not alone nor completely mad.

Let me know how you get on and I will do the same. My chipset is (from memory) VIA KT333, and systems runs a VIA IDE manager utility. I might try disabling that to see if it helps, or will look to see if there is any update which might help.

Upgrade to RecordNow 7.22 worked!

I managed to get the upgrade to work :D. I had been running dual boot with Win98/XP, but decided to ditch Win 98.

When I resinstalled XP alone I removed the VIA IDE Manager from the device manager listing. I had version 6.7 installed (so the upgrade would detect it). I DID NOT load XP service pack 2 since I had seen somewhere to install the update without it installed.

I then installed the upgrade and it worked. RN7.22 is installed. I have not tested it yet but at least I managed to get ut installed. Not sure exactly which action(s) made it work - removing Win98 dual boot, removing IDE manager, not installing XP service pack 2 - but they are some things to try.
