Creating cd-r for Mac and PC (Hybrid?)

Hello all,

I was wondering if anybody could help me or point me in the right direction in what I'm trying to do. "What ARE you trying to do?" you ask. Well I've created a Flash presentation that I would like to distribute on cd to both Mac and PC users. The presentation is generated as an .exe for PC and .hqx for MacOS. I'm using a WinXP machine and I have Nero. My question is threefold:

1. Create an autorun.inf to autoplay the presentation, which will do that for the PC, I'm not familiar with Macs so will they autoplay the.hqx file? or is there an equivalent to the autorun.inf file that I need to create?

2. Burn them both to cd-rs that'll be readable on PC and Mac, Nero has the Hybrid option but you need an Apple partition for the Apple portion of the CD which I don't have, so will a UDF cd work? (I'm shooting in the dark here)

3. Finally this is optional, can this cd also be a hybrid mixed-mode cd, with audio tracks on the remaining space?, and if so what considerations/compatibility issues should I take into account.

if anyone has any suggestions or needs more info I await your response
:)

p.s. I've run searches on this board and on google as well as cdfreaks.com with no satisfactory results.

.hqx files are not executables, they are encoded for extracting, also Flash for Windows makes only executables for Mac OS 9 and earlier.

There is no equivalent of autorun.inf, with Mac and Roxio's Toast you specify wich file you want to run on insert, but it only works on Mac OS previous than Mac OS X, any "autorun" CD on Mac OS X does not autorun.

The Hybrid options works with media created with Mac filesystem, like a Hardisk or ZIP media.

Macs can read ISO, UDF and other formats, you can make a folder with the HQX file with some little instructions in it.

I made the flash executable with Flash on Mac OS X so can be executed on both X and earlier OSs, then with Toast I made an Image file with the Mac file, then mounted that Image so Toast can know wich file autostarts, then with Toast open a Custom Hybrid session, took the windows files (autorun included) with the ISO button and the mounted Image with the Mac button and instead of burning the CD I made an Image file so it can be burned on the PC with Nero. Nero Recognizes that Image as Hybrid.

I never tried a Hybrid with mixed mode, I'll try later and see what happen.

My only suggestion: if you have a friend with a Mac let him/her made a image of your CD, that image can be burned with Nero on your PC.

I realize I didn't mention that I'm using Flash MX, but I don't think that matters, as hqx is the only format it'll give me. So .hqx is a MacOS exclusive compression standard? like .zip or .rar? I guess that explains why Winzip associated itself with that file, I thought it was a mistake.

So there's no way to create a MacOS executable in Windows? (which makes sense and now I seem to remember the manual vaguely refering to this). However I just want to clarify, an Apple running Nero will be able to create a mixed mode cd by reading the Windows Flash executable and Toast would assign the default launch file for MacOS for the Apple executable, use this image on a Win PC and Nero to create the CD.

Well Alejandra thank you for all this info it'll give me something to chew on.

Joe

Thanks, I never left CDRLabs, but had little time to post, I never miss a review.

I have a new slot loading CDRW-DVD combo :) , it came with a very small nice computer :D
