Whats the final verdict on Nero 6 ?

Is it better than the Nero 5.5.xxx?? Is it the be all end all of CDR software??

Just curious as to what some of the Nero 6 users might say.

And also, is it worth it to upgrade to 6 from 5.5.xxx?

Thanks.

So far I'm impressed with it.

I doubt you'll see Ahead working on ver 5 much longer.

It's all of the small side programs that seem to be the cause of problems. I've found the core burning program to be pretty much the same (feature wise), they just changed things around to make it look a little different (or to make more sense).

For now, I'm sticking with 5.5, but 6 didn't seem bad to me when I tried the demo.

Edit: The main reason I'm sticking with 5.5 is that I don't want to spend the extra money to upgrade to 6 as 5.5 already has all of the features that I need.

omega could you please elaborate on why it is "crap".

I like it. :D They just need to work on some minor bugs in the peripheral apps. But in the end, you really don't need it if you have other apps like PowerDVD, Drive Image, MusicMatch Jukebox, and of course, Nero 5.5. You probably have all of these (or similar ones) that came in a suite you already bought or that came with a DVD/CD RW drive or even with that brand new PC you got last Xmas.

P.S. And they DEFINITELY need to work on the evil InCD!

lets see

Nero6 is a cow the code is poorly writen. My Yamaha crw-f1 does not work correctly with 6 but fine with all 5.5 + versions.

Nero Vision Express 2 will not capture over 10 or 15 minutes of video without errors. NVE 1 works no matter how long the video is/was.
When converting a AVI to VCD/DVD it drops frames like mad in any high action frames.

Incd4 is broken hard. should be in the virus data base.

There are so many bugs my head is still spinning. I lost track the minor ones.

And the best part is try uninstalling them clean. Good luck.
I do not care how you uninstall them, this cleaner that cleaner it's a mess

Now do not get me wrong I love nero 5.5 Ahead has made some good stuff but the version 6 package should still be in alpha testing it's not even ready for beta testing yet.

Ahead is going to fix the problems but it will take time. If I had not paid for 6 I would give up and stay with 5.5 for now.

Nero 6 ultra will rule when it works. No other package does more for the price.

wonderwrench I had a look at your posts but I couldn't find one about InCD 4. What exactly make you said that it is broken hard?

1)Blue screen on a check disk boot (uninstall incd4 problem gone)
2)This drive is in use buy another app (uninstall incd4 problem gone)
3)Incd4 still does not see a unformated cdrw and ask to format it.
4)system performace hit. Not as bad as directcd but I can feel it's loaded.

note: I have not beta tested InCD40503 yet but i'm working up to it.
The hole 6 Ultra package has put a bad tast in my mouth.
The worst part is I think I would love it if not for the bugs.
Oh and the biggest bug is it looks like all Ahead software will not cleanly uninstall.
I never knew this before 6 because I never had to uninstall it.

My big beef with all cdrw software is you cant turn it off.
Packet writing software always has a driver you can't unload.
I have never used directcd or incd that worked perfectly and or without
system performance or stability loss.

Because of this packet writing software/drivers are problematic.
I want an option to not load it on start up and if I want to use it, load it on the next boot. It would work for me.

Point 1) have been fixed in InCD 4.0.5.03. Time to test the update! ;-)

Point 2) needs clarification: if this occurs when a udf-formatted RW media is inserted, this is a normal behavior (to avoid conflict of InCD and Nero accessing the media at the same time). To workaround you just need to eject the media, launch Nero, re-insert the media.

Point 3) should be better in InCD 4.0.5.03. Pilgrim signaled me although that under XP it seems to not work if IMAPI is disable. Currently been checked in our QA labs.

Point 4): Well, the additionnal memory charge can hardly be avoided. Although an operating system like NT4/2k/XP will without trouble move the unfrequently used memory pages to swap. About CPU charge, after been up several hours, if I don't use InCD, I see CPU Time for incdsrv.exe and incd.exe in Task Manager both to 0:00:00 (aka, not even 1 second, and this is on a not so new 1 Ghz computer). Thus, can you give concrete example of the system load you experiment? :-?

Unfortunately this is by design of Windows. Filesystems are drivers in the Windows architecture, it is not possible to write a filesystem as user-mode application. Also, Windows does not allow drivers to be loaded and unloaded at wish.

Maybe Linux with its capacity to load/unload kernel modules will better fit your needs, but so far I think they support of packet-writing is rather weak.

With InCD 4 this sound not impossible to write but it will take much time to be test. I will add it to my list of christmass-whishes ;-)

Well looks like I'm eating crow Version 4.0.5.3 fixed the biggies

1)Blue screen on a check disk boot (uninstall incd4 problem gone) Fixed!

2)This drive is in use buy another app (uninstall incd4 problem gone) have not had this problem yet any way. And no I have had it happen with audio cd's and product install disks. Note I have formated and reloaded my system so it my have been nero 5.5/ incd3 still hanging around causing problems?

3)Incd4 still does not see a unformated cdrw and ask to format it. Fixed!

4)system performace hit. Not as bad as directcd but I can feel it's loaded.
well 3 out of 4 is not bad

Thanks ahead

now lets see NVE2 work and Backitup seems to show the files created about 5 1/2 hours in the future. yes my pc clock is set correctly.
Oh and nero burning rom is still a cow ( it's like running windows 95 on a 486 33mhz box.)
