Nero 6, Daemon Tools and on_the_fly?

Hi

I like to use backups when I travel . Now that I bought a DVD Burner (LG 4040b) I want to back up a few films for my next trip.

Tell me what is wrong:

Use DVD Decrypter to rip to HD.
Use Daemon to mount a virtual DVD
In NERO 6:
Choose 'new' unde File in menu
Choose DVD Copy
Coose virtual drive in "COPY OPTIONS" dialog box
Press copy.

-----\
I get a error since Nero is trying to copy the DVD (like making an image) and I don't have the space to spare for yet another version of the film on my HD.
Funny thing is I did a couple and they burned fine....now it wants to make an image.
Should I check 'On_the_Fly' ?
Nero warns it is risky...and I can't remember if it was checked when I last did a copy. I thought it wasn't.

Should I just use Nero Express and 'quick copy' from the virtual drive/rip to the DVD-R ?

Help?

Is the DVD under 4.38GB? If not then it either needs to be reauthored (ie, removing menus/extra features) or compressed. Try DVDShrink (www.dvdshrink.org), it's the best out there, and it's free and can rip the DVD too. The version 3 beta seems very stable, and has features that the 2.3 version does not. 3.0 Final should be out soon. I suggest using the v.3 beta (I've been using it since it came out and have copied about a dozen DVDs with it, without any problems).

Then you can just use Nero to burn it's output...

BurninMan921,

Yeah, I've only done a few (originally) single layer discs. Then I got this situation where NERO is trying to write an image when I choose 'COPY'

Should I be worried about using 'On-The_Fly' from a "Daemon virtual drive' ? I assume Nero Express' 'Quick Copy' option is pretty much the same as 'On the Fly'. Am I right ? I would expect an 'On the Fly' copy from a virtual (I.E. ripped) drive would negate buffer under runs and errors since the date from the HD has got to be faster than that of another CD/DVD drive.

Yes, I'll try out DVD shrink for double layer discs but I,m not there yet.

Well, the on-the-fly copy should work just fine. If you want to burn the image created by DVD-Decrypter, just use DVD-Decrypter. It can burn the ISO's it creates. Or, instead of ripping the DVD as an ISO, do a file mode rip then tell Nero to create a DVD-Video disc (using the normal Nero Burning ROM, not Express or Nero Vision). Drop the files from the dvd rip into the VIDEO_TS folder that Nero puts there for you, and it should work fine.

As to why it wants to create an image, start Nero and make sure your burner is selected, not the "Image Recorder". That's the only reason I can think that Nero would want to do an image, other than the disc being oversized.

And DVD Shrink works just fine on single-layer discs, too, if you don't want to have several DVD rip programs. But then, DVD Decrypter is nice since it can do ISOs...

If Nero still refuses to copy the image, and it's the right size, see if another burning program can do it. Try CopyToDVD
(http://www.copytocd.com/); it has a free trial version available.

With Decrypter, would the burn be set as a:

Mode 1/2048
Mode 1/2352
Mode 2/2352

?

I believe the first one; DVD Decrypter has never asked that on my system. You may want to double-check on DVD Decrypter's web site.

Sorry it took so long to respond, I've been reinstalling Windows since it took a nose-dive on me a few hours ago
