Does Nero lock DVD write speeds @ media's rated speed?

I have a Sony DRU500A running 2.0F (which supports 4x DVD+/-R burning)... I've got a bunch of Verbatim 2.4x DVD+Rs & a few Memorex 2.4x + and - R discs... When I try to burn a new DVD the compilation window in Nero 6 doesn't display anyting but 2.4x for burn speeds... the drop down doesn't include a 4x option.... Seeing as I still have like 40 blank DVDs I haven't bought any 4x media yet, just curious if this is the expected behavior or not? I was hoping to try a 4x burn on some of the Verbatim discs....

That seems correct. I have never been able to burn at any speed other than the rated speed of a disk...except when I upgraded to the Plextor PX-708a...but only then with the approved media that Plextor has written into it's firmware. That is where the lock is...not with Nero. The drive's firmware knows and regulates.
