Dear all,
Hi.I downloaded the Nero 6 startup PDF file and read that there was a HD-CD burning option. It was stated that you can burn 1.4 Gb of data on a normal CD-R(700 MB)using DVD technology. If this is possible with Nero 6 then I will definitely buy it,irrespective of how buggy it is  .I will be glad if someone tells me how this is possible.

Waiting for some replies,

It's possible only if you have certain hardware.

HD-Burn is a special feature invented by Sanyo. It only works with certain Sanyo drives; you won't be able to do this with other drives.

Dear all,
Hi.I just want to know that why don't we see Sanyo's CD-Writer's as compared to other companies if they can write 1.4 Gb of data on a normal CD-R?Is the price too high as compared to the normal CD-Writer's?And why doesn't Sanyo licence that technology to other vendor's?

Good questions.

First, Sanyo only sells CD-RW drives in the OEM market, so you won't normally find a Sanyo branded CD-RW drive in the first place:

Second, HD-BURN is a relatively new technology that Sanyo is still trying to promote. I think they perfected it after they designed their last CD-RW drive, and it isn't something that can be added by a firmware update. Thus, only newer drives will be able to support HD-BURN.

Sanyo is actively trying to get others to license the technology, but apparently hasn't had much luck so far. Right now I believe only the Optorite DD0201 and DD0203 drives support HD-BURN, which is somewhat ironic since both are DVD burners and one of the touted features of HD-BURN is greater data density without the need for a DVD burner...
