I'm not sure what "Issue 5203" is, but CD Freaks has reported that it fixed the problem with the PX-708A where it couldn't close the session. I ran into that problem myself a few times.

No idea if it fixes the overburning problem.

Is it me, or is Nero taking its sweet time releasing patches and updates these days?

I tried this patch, and it seems to fix the bug regarding the disc's capacity. Nero 5.5.10.50 will now let me burn a disc to its full capacity! :D

Edit: I tested burning a full disc in Nero 5.5.10.50 on both my LTR-52327S and my LTR-48125W, and it worked fine!

I think they're waiting for the first of the month. Their demo's always expire at the end of the month.

Nero sucks, why can't they get it right? They fix one problem and create another!

Use NTI CD/DVD Maker,RecordNow or DVDDecrypter(image) for burning and you won't be sorry.
Rant over

Actually, I use NTI, too. Still, I prefer Nero's features, and I have never had a problem with it (except for the capacity bug mentioned above).

Sorry for the delay in the patch, but we had to make sure it was working properly for everyone.

You can use the FTP links provided by others in this forum. Or you can go directly to our website and in the bottom left of the window under news it will provide a link for the Overburn Patch.

Or you can just use the below link.

HI Ian,
Have you tried overburning in 5.5.10.50 after installing the patch?

Where does Ahead announce its patches?

Are we supposed to continually search their ftp sites and guess what the files are for?

There needs to a well-defined web page hat specifies what patches are available, to what version they apply and what is the purpose of the patch.

Nero does provide links and explanations for their patches. This page is linked to from the home page of the Nero web site.

Let me clarify.

I was not asking about such a link, rather I intended to ask:

How to we find such links?

There needs to be a web page in a fixed address thgat has pointers to the patches.

Yep,Howard I agree with you.Ahead should specially provide a link in concern to this on their homepage.

There is a link to that page on Ahead's home page.

That is not adequate.

There needs to be a sinlgle place to go to to find a list of ALL patches, past and present.

The obvious place is a link in a SUPPORT page.

I upgraded to 6.0.0.15 and 5203 patch. I have the same issue. One coaster is enough for me. I am going to stick with DVD+RW media for now until I know this issue is truly resolved.

But, I do not have the overburn issue anymore.

As a rule, we try not to provide patches. We prefer to come out with a new release each month to address bugs. It would tend to cause too much confusion if we have both Patches and upgrades to resolve issues. Only on rare occasions, when an issue is deemed very urgent do we provide a patch to resolve an issue, as we did with this overburning issue.

As for the Plextor 708A close session error, could you provide more details on this? We have this model here in our lab and have no trouble creating Data CD/DVDs or audio CD/DVDs. When you say close session, do you mean that you try and Finalize the CD/DVD or are you using the Disc-At-Once feature and yet you are still able to add data to the CD or DVD?

As for closing the session in Track-At-Once mode so the CD/DVD is readable by CDROM or DVDROM drives, this is automatic with Nero and it is working based on our tests. We have no trouble creating a Data CD/DVD or Audio CD/DVD. They all come out as readable.

What firwmare version do you have on your 708A plextor recorder?

The only other issue we are currently aware of is with DVD+MRW support. Plextor Europe confirms that PX-708A is not supporting DVD+MRW at this time, though they may come out with support for this later down the line.

Craig

Hi Craig,

I have firmware 1.01 on my drive. The drive has completed copying all of the data, then it is trying to close the session, but it errors out saying unable to close session and ends the burn.

I have a Memorex 4x DVD+R burning at 8x speed. I am able to do a complete burn with a DVD+RW media without any errors.

Tonight, I will uninstall version 6.0.0.15 and go back to version 6.0.0.11 to see if the same issue occurs with the Memorex 4x DVD+R since other users are having success with this version of Nero 6.0.

I uninstalled version 6.0.0.15 of Nero 6 and installed version 6.0.0.11. I was able to successfully complete a DVD+R burn this time. I ran it in 8x mode taking 7:58 for the full burn.

I am going to stick with version 6.0.0.11 for now.

Hi Vsekh,

I've confirmed your findings. There is a bug in Nero 6.0.0.15 when used with the Plextor 708A recorder. And as you have found out there is no problem when you use Nero 6.0.0.11

I was about to generate a bug report, but found that this bug has already been resolved in Nero 6.0.0.16 and later releases. No bug report was generated by anyone else so it seem to have been resolved indirectly. :)

And since we are at the end of the month, I expect a new version of Nero 6 to be posted on our webiste any day now for those who do not wish to downgrade.

Regards,

Craig
