Sounds neat. So would this be roughly the same as making a high quality VCD or SVCD with TMPGEnc?

Also, it says on there non-CSS encrypted titles, if a user rips the movie to thier HDD with a program like Smart Ripper or DVD Decrypter, can they have the PowerPack upgrade look on the HDD for the DVD Movie Files? (VOB, IFO, BUP)

The end result is just as good as the original DVD-Video source, meaning better than VCD or SVCD foramt. That is if were talking about the conversion to NeroDigital (MP4) format.

You get the same Quality as the original DVD, you get the 5.1 Channel Surround sound, and the Subtitle's for English, French, etc, all on a CD, or DVD if you prefer.

Of course, if someone used a Ripper, the files would no longer be protected. So Nero Recode would of course have no trouble working with the VOB, etc files. We of course do not condone this in any way. :D But yes it's possible.

And with Nero Recode, you can preview the Movie as its being Encoded and burned to the CD, or DVD. Our NeroDigital Encoder is a faster than RealTime Encoder. No sound comes out during the Encoding/Burning/Preview process, but you can see how the Movie will come out in the end during the burn.

Craig

a few questions:

1. this upgrade is called "Nero 6 Ultra Edition Power Pack Upgrade". will it be available to Nero 6 (non Ultra) users (= not in the US)?

2. according to PC Mag, this upgrade consists of Nero Recode 2.0 and Nero Digital.
isn't Nero Recode a standard part of Nero 6/6 Ultra anyway? (according the the website the latest version of Nero Recode is 0.9.9.6).
so won't Recode 2 be available as part of the regular updates of Nero 6?

3. so, since Recode is part of Nero 6 anyway, the upgrade is actually only the addition of Nero Digital?
what exactly is Nero Digital? what does it do that Nero/NeroVision doesn't?

4. on what kind of players will such a CD-ROM be viewable?
Nero ShowTime? other software such as PowerDVD etc.? VCD-compatible DVD players?

To respond to your questions...

"a few questions:"

1. this upgrade is called "Nero 6 Ultra Edition Power Pack Upgrade". will it be available to Nero 6 (non Ultra) users (= not in the US)?

A) Yes. This is a Nero 6 Retail upgrade. Any Retail version of Nero 6 is eligable for this 'Power Pack Upgrade'.

2. according to PC Mag, this upgrade consists of Nero Recode 2.0 and Nero Digital.
isn't Nero Recode a standard part of Nero 6/6 Ultra anyway? (according the the website the latest version of Nero Recode is 0.9.9.6).
so won't Recode 2 be available as part of the regular updates of Nero 6?

A) Yes, for future upgrades. But as you know, we come out with the upgrades on a monthly basis. But this upgrade consists of more then just an upgrade to the Nero Recode. Files in NeroVision need to be upgrade, ShowTime, Recode, etc. And we want to release the 'Power Pack Upgrade' as soon as it's ready, and not wait for the end of the month release. And this new Nero Recoder is a program in it's own right. You'll see a dramatic change in features in Nero Recode 2 as compared to the Nero Recode some of you are already familiar with.

3. so, since Recode is part of Nero 6 anyway, the upgrade is actually only the addition of Nero Digital?
what exactly is Nero Digital? what does it do that Nero/NeroVision doesn't?

A) NeroDigital is the MP4 Encoder that Ahead has developed. It can take an original VOB file and encode it to MP4 format. At this time this is not as enticing as it will be as DVD Players, and CE Devices come on the market in the next months and years to support the MP4 Video/Audio format. And NeroDigital will become a part of NeroVision, not only Nero Recode, with this upgrade.

4. on what kind of players will such a CD-ROM be viewable?
Nero ShowTime? other software such as PowerDVD etc.? VCD-compatible DVD players?[/quote]

A) At this time there are not many devices that will play MP4. Nero ShowTime of course will. Others will quickly follow. DVD Players are already in production to support MP4, and by the middle of next year I expect all new model DVD Players to support MP4.
Admittedly this is a feature for the future, but the very near future. :)

PS. As a note, this will come with the MP3 Unlimited Encoder. As many of you have been requesting we supply for some time.

Best Regards,

Craig

so just to clarify:
  • all the components of the Upgrade Pack will eventually (though this may take a while) become incorporated into the "standard" Nero 6 ?
  • right now the only way to view these CDs is on a PC using Nero ShowTime ?

Yes, the upgrade Pack will be a part of Nero 6 in future upgrades. So logically you can just do a full upgrade. But with the Upgrade Pack, you only need to download and install a smaller file to get the new Nero Recode and other features. The very next release of Nero 6, after the Upgrade Pack has been released, will of course contain this upgrade Pack.

And yes, right now I know of only our Nero ShowTime that supports the MP4 Video format. There are some devices that support MP4 Audio alread out, such as the IPod from Apple. And I have heard that APEX will be or is shipping a new DVD Player that suppports the MP4 format.

Craig

Any purchase of NEro 6 over the Nero Website will be a Retail version of Nero. We do not sell OEM versions on our website. :)

So yes, you would be entitled to the free upgrade to the Power Pack Upgrade.
