Ive got the pioneer 106 & ive had no probs with data burns with nero 6.0.0.19. I change to nero express & that gives option for data burns.

I don't download from Ahead's website, because I get kicked out everytime I download about 8 megs. I download from other sites so that I don't waste time trying several times before I get a complete download anymore.
Their updates are really useful.
Posted: Sun Nov 09, 2003 10:36 pmI tried Nero v6.0.0.23 but it has problems. It incorrectly estimates recording times on DVD-RWs (at 1x speed it seems to estimate like a 4x) and also screws up data on recording video DVDs beyond about 3GB. I reverted to v6.0.0.19 and no problems!

In 5.5.10.54 you can burn DVD+R and DVD+RW successfully in a multiburner, but burnt DVD-R aren´t readable after about 2-3 GB.
Maybe some "innovations" which were built in 5.5.10.54 was put in the new 6.0.0.23, too !
I wrote the "techsupport@nero.com" that this error exists,
but never heard a feedback to this.
It seems, Nero didn´t remove its bug, but put this bug also into the 6th version, if your documentation is right.
Maybe Nero never got such an error because of testing only until 1.5 GB or whatsoever.

P.S.: If it is like described, Ahead only would have to think what they have done in the past with 5.5 and now with 6.0 and they would know where they have to look at !

I haven't tried a -R (or -RW) yet. I'll try that next and see if I have a similar problem.

Have you burned full (over 4 Gig) data DVD-R's using disc-at-once (not
multisession) at faster than 1x? I can only burn full data DVDs by
using multisession and burn at 1x when I use 6.0.0.19. If I use
Nero to create a .ISO file, I can burn a non-multisession disk at 2x by
burning the .ISO with DVD Decrypter. This works, but uses a ton of
disk space, is slow, and I can't verify the DVD. I'm hoping 6.0.0.23
might fix this.

I verified reading it using DVD decrypter and then do file compares. With 6.00.19 I get no such problems and also get correct time estimates with 1x DVD-RW burning which 6.00.23 gives incorrect time estimates (4x faster than it should be).

Which version of Nero have you seen this problem with 4G+ data DVDs?
I have had several different symptoms when I try to create these. Often,
the DVD completes OK, but files cannot be read at all. Often, Nero fails
with various different errors while writing the Lead Out. I don't care as
much about proper estimates as long as I can burn disks without errors!
Posted: Mon Nov 10, 2003 8:23 pmWe do not see this issue with writing data over 3gig to DVD. We have of course looked into this issue as it has been reported by one or two customers, possibly the same persons as are posting on this forum. 
But we have tried this with a variety of recorders and media and so far all is working properly. We do not find trouble with reading the data after it's written.
We will continue to look into this issue of course. But we need to find the exact sequence of events or conditions to cause this to occur before we can confirm this issue and then resolve.

Posted: Tue Nov 11, 2003 4:15 amI have the problem only with the 6.0.0.23 version using an Optorite DD0203 drive with a 2.4x DVD+RW disc writing a 4GB+ DVD-video. Testing reading the files back it has read errors on file(s) beyond about the 3GB point. If I write a <=3GB DVD-video file set it reads OK or if I use v6.0.0.19 its fine for 4GB+. I also noted that 6.0.0.23 gives incorrect remaining time estimates (1/4 the correct time) for a 1x DVD-RW DVD-video burn, while 6.0.0.19 gave correct time estimates.
Posted: Wed Nov 12, 2003 4:07 pmAre folks still getting overburning errors, or is it just me? I've been trying to burn a 798mb ISO, and Nero automatically ejects the CD, saying I don't have any space. Overburning has been enabled, of course.
I've tried downgrading to old versions of Nero (6009, 60011, 60023, 551042), then uninstalling and rebooting, and I'm still unable to burn. Unfortunately I can't find 60015 anywhere -- it looks like the patch only works with that version.

Nero offered me an option to compress the files to fit DVD-5 disk. I accepted it. Then I got a message saying that the file type that I am trying to burn will not be recognized by stand-alone DVD player. I ignored that message too, and burned the DVD. My stand-alone DVD player did not recognize the disk as Nero warned me.
Being frustrated by this new version of Nero, I started clicking around until I found the way burning the DVD by my old method. When I pointed the mouse cursor to DVD-Video in Nero StartSmart, a little drop-down window appeared letting me choose what piece of software I wish to continue. I selected "Nero Express", and it opened my favorite menu where I could add the VOB files to the red Video_ts folder. I completed the process and burned the DVD. It played in my stand-alone DVD player afterwards.
However, I got the same problem as I had before (and I mentioned this in some threads on DVDRHelp forum): after playing the movie for approx 1 hour the DVD player starts having difficulties reading the disk until it stops playing back the DVD completely. I understand that it can be caused by cheap CompUSA disk, but I had this problem with many other DVD media (Princo, Memorex and Ritek). I'm wondering if others have the same problem with their Optorite DD0203 or even other burners...

Posted: Wed Nov 12, 2003 8:19 pmRegarding those cheapo CompUSA DVD+Rw discs - I tried those before with the Optorite DD0203 drive and all of them I tried have read errors, the Optorite isn't compatible with that particular media brand I think. I have had no problems with Ricoh-made DVD+RW media which is sold as Memorex, Imation, or Meritline. With the new v2.23 firmware, it even adds support for the newer 4x DVD+RW Ricoh-made media from Memorex too and it is available at very low prices at CompUSA, so avoid that crummy Compusa-brand DVD+RW and go with Memorex, they often have 40% off sales so stock up during that time.

Posted: Thu Nov 13, 2003 5:49 pmThe >3GB problems I had with 6.0.0.23 were with DVD+RW discs, not DVD-R. The Memorex 4x DVD+RW discs of course will only burn at 2.4x maximum speed on the Optorite DD0203 ( thats the drives maximum speed for DVD+RW) so the compatability is regarding being able to use the 4x media at all, not at the 4x speed. Prior to the latest v2.23 firmware, the Optorite couldn't burn a 4x DVD+RW disc properly at all, it would get read errors or render the disc useless for future use. The new firmware allows proper burning of the new 4X DVD+RW media since it is cheaper in some cases than the older 2.4x media.
