Can't use CR-RW anymore

I am using Nero 5.5.10 to burn back-ups on te same CD-RW (same backup job). After approx. 5 times of burning I now get the message that the CD-RW is empty. In Explorer I can see all the previously burned files however. I did not finish the session, so why can't I continue to use the CR-RW for the backup job?

IF you use the 'Disc Info' feature in our Nero software, what does it report about the CD-RW disc?

How Much Space is free?

Does it report as CD-Rewritable? Or Read Only?

Craig

It recognises a CD-ReWritable, but it gives no available capacity (greyed out), total capacity is 656 Mb. According to explorer approx. 58 Mb is used.

Based on your response, the disc has been Finalized, and can not be written too anymore. Even if only 2mb of space was used. Once a disc is finalized, it's closed for good.

You will need to copy the data from the CDRW to your Hard Drive, do a Full or Quick Erase, and then start the burn over. And make sure you do not use the Finalize option when you create the Data CD. And if you are going to continue writing to the disc, you should use do a Multisession Data CD.

Thank you for your reply. As far as I can see and remember I didn't finalize the session, but I'll check it.

Well, after 5 times of burning a backup on another CR-RW it happens again. And no, the disc has not been finalized. Nero says it requires a CR-R/RW and recognises a CR-RW, though the CD is the same????

Is anyone else able to duplicate this issue? I've tested this on a number of systems with a number of Recorders, but can not duplicate the symptom.

Craig

And it happened again.....with new CD-RW, same problem, same message. Apparantly it does not overwrite existing files.

Hi Panhead,

Sorry for taking so long to respond back to this issue, but I was on the road all through the month of June.

I've tried to duplicate this issue using various recorders and systems, and I am not able too. I can only assume the issue is hardware related, meaning your recorder. But I can not be 100% sure.

I would recommend downloading a third party software, such as NTI's at www.ntius.com and see if their Demo version of their software has the same problem as our software does. If both programs have the same issue, I think we can rule software out as the cause and start looking more closely at your recorder and/or media.

Craig

Thank you for your reply. I can try that. I also thought if version 6 could offer a solution?

By all means, try with the latest Nero 6.3.1.15 and see if this resolves the issue as well. If you still have problems, you should still test with a third party software to help us isolate the issue.
