The ease of use reduces by having "Roxio" reader and "Nero" reader.
Why can't we have a universal reader? Afterall we are following "U"DF!

We don't need to install readers after we format a 1.44" floppy, Do we?

No offence, but there is a lot of scope in this area for the software people to do and the users to demand.

In a sense, we do have a universal USB Driver(s).

IF you have Windows 2000 or XP, you can use the systems default UDF reader for Legacy formatted CD-RW/DVD-RW/DVD+RW media.


If you use the MRW format, Or if you are running under Windows 95/98SE/ME, then you need a third party UDF reader. And it does not matter who's you use. The InCD EasyWrite Reader will work with disc's created by InCD, DragToDisc/DirectCD, FileCD, and any other packet wriring software. Same with Roxio's driver.

I think what you are really after is for Microsoft to include a UDF reader in their systems that supports both Legacy and MRW formatted media, so that you would not need to worry who's UDF reader you have installed. And who's reader has problems with what systems, driver, etc. This way there is only one Reader and one set of known problems.

This would be nice, even from my viewpoint.

In theory that is true, but Ahead's EasyWrite Reader does not support all the drives supported by Roxio's EWR, nor does the latest version of Ahead's EWR even support all the drives supported by version 3.3.2.0 of Ahead's EWR.

Until I purchased Easy Media Creater 7 last week, I was stuck using the earlier version of Ahead's EWR, but, as I reported in another thread, on my test system, that version of EWR would not install after I installed InCD 4.1.5.7., in particular, it told me that I was not using a "Windows" system.
