I'm currently using ahead nero 5.5.9.14

It came with my portable burner for desktop pc, which works fine...

When I try to burn a new VCD or any file after installing on laptop it asks me to save a (Image)*.nrg file into my harddisk. After doing so it goes to the burning process... everything seems normal, but when it says burning complete, my blank CD remains blank, but an Image.nrg file is saved into my computer. I have looked everywhere, but still couldn't figure out why this is happening. Could somebody help me with this issue? Thanks.

2 things:

1. make sure you are actually burning and not simulating.
in the burn properties box (just before you start burning) make sure the checkbox for actually writing is checked.

2. make sure you are burning to your CD drive, not to the Image Drive. in the Select Recorder window choose your CDR/W drive.
