CD-Text corruption

I usually burn Audio CDs with CD-Text information, and I've never had a problem, until now.

I popped my CDR into my HiFi, which reads CD-Text info, and the album title has been corrupted - there's lots of spurious accented characters instead of the text I entered.

The first half of the track titles seem to be okay, but the last half are corrupted too.

The disk plays okay, and I can't hear anything wrong with the audio. Could it just be a dodgy burn?

I'm using Nero Burning ROM 6.3.1.6, with a Plextor 708A. Media is Discrite White 80min, burnt at 40x.

I have burnt loads of disks before at this speed in the same drive. This is the first burn with v6.3.1.6 though.

Very likely yes. I've seen this on occasion with some media, when used with certain Recorders.

Try a slower write speed, and see if that resolves the issue.

Or see if there is a firmware upgrade for your recorder. As this may come with a new Read/Write strategy for that brand of media to be used with that recorder.
