Can someone help me get ATIP working ?

I cannot seem to read ATIP info on my cdrw. It is a Lite On 52327S.
I started off downloading the CDR ATIP Reader Version 0.92
2002 W510. It told me it could not find WNASPI32.DLL despite having Nero 6.3 installed. So I went to adaptec and downloaded their ASPI stuff.
Now ATIP reader loads ok but it doesn't recognize my cdrw.

I have since learned that nero cd-dvd speed program under nero tools can read atip info but again, I load Nero CD-DVD speed and select disc info under the extra menu. The box pops up but all the information is blank:

Manufacturer : -
Code : -
Disc Type : -
Usage : -
Recording Layer : -
Recording Speed : -
Capacity : -
Additional Capacity : -
Overburn Capacity : -

Any ideas how to get this working ? :( I'm pretty sure my burner supports the necessary commands. I'm trying to read from a Maxell Color CDR 48X 700MB from a 30 pack, "Made in Japan". Thanks.

why don't you try another program for reading the ATIP?
for instance: Nero CD-DVD Speed

Yes.CDSpeed is a good software and it recognises many ATIP's without any problems.New versions of Nero InfoTool and CDSpeed are released yesterday.

The other that I liked is SmartBurn from Lite-On.

Yeah actually I tried cd/dvd speed. That's why I posted in this forum. I would think it should work fine. I'm running the latest version of Nero.
And am using the regular microsoft ide drivers. There must be a conflict ?

do you mean to say, that both CDR ATIP Reader Version 0.92 and CD Speed don't work?

what does Nero InfoTool say about ASPI ? (ASPI tab)

Are you trying to read ATIP from a burned and finalized disc? That might be your problem. Try reading the ATIP information from a totally blank disc (never been burned at all) and see what you get.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I'm trying to read a blank cdr.
Neroinfotool boots up and I see a stream of comments, nothing looking unusual (and btw does this go to a log file?) and after the GUI comes up I select ASPI and under ASPI there are two different ones, System ASPI and Nero ASPI,
Nero ASPI appears to be the latest version dated July 22, 2004, below both its says on a green bar "ASPI is installed and working properly".

Under the configuration tab there are the usual items along with 2 SCSI Controllers, 1 being a generic DVD-ROM that is a virtual drive from either Alcohol 120 or Daemon Tools. I remember trying with no virtuals out of desperation and the ATIP was still broken. I assume the 2 scsis correspond to the ASPIs.

Under disc it says

Type: Blank CDR
Capacity N/A
Layers 1
Supported Speeds 52, 48 blah blah....
Blank Capacity N/A
Manf Id. N/A
and then everything under content all say N/A

I guess the next thing to try is uninstalling Nero and all my other CDR programs and starting fresh. How can I remove the ASPI stuff adeptec put on ? Is it possible this cake doesn't have the atip or is that part of the cd recordable standard ?

Not possible, not if it really is CD-R. All CD-R have pre-grooves and ATIP information. Without it, they can't be burned.

I would wager that you have installed Alcohol 120% or some other similar software that allows you to duplicate copy protected CDs. Such software includes a function to block reading of ATIP information, because some copy protection schemes check for ATIP information to see if a disc is a CD-R and thus a copy.

Tell us what software you have installed, and we can likely tell you how to temporarily (or permanently) disable the ATIP blocking feature.
