Bad Backups Using BackItUp For > 3.5gb Backups

I am using Nero BackItUp ver 1.2.0.20 on a Sony DVD/RW drive model DRU-700A. The media I am using is Memorex DVD+RW with a 2.4X write speed. Backups less than 3.5gb in size are successful. Backups greater than 3.5gb in size fail the verification. For the failures, I checked to make sure that the verifcation was not producing a "false positive". The files which the verification had problems, I also could not open. I tried another DVD+RW disk and the results were the same. I have flashed the ROM of my Sony drive to the most current. Here are my system specs:

AthlonXP 3200+
Shuttle AN35N Ultra 400 Mobo
Kingston HyperX PC3500 2 X 256 mb
nVidia Geforce4 Ti 4600 video card
Sony DRU-700A DVD Burner

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks - Stuart

I've never done a back up with DVD burning, but I assume that it may be the same. What was the state of your DVD+RW media, erased or formatted?

If formatted, I would erase them and try again.

I have erased the disk between each backup attempt.

Sorry for taking so long to respond to this issue, but I was on the road, and then when I returned I had to test on a number of systems to try and duplicate.

Unfortuneately, I can not duplicate this issue. I've tested this using files from 3.5gig in size up to 9gig and could not get it to fail during a read verify. I've tested on Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, and XP with all the latest system upgrades, and after repeated tests I could not get this to fail.

I have the same Sony model recorder, and DVD-RW media. I've even tested with other recorders and media and could not duplicate.

Regards,

Craig

But were you doing a FULL ERASE and not a quick erase? Try doing a full disk format about 10 times and see how the media is. They get better after a few writes.
