Question on use of Nero Recode 2.1.1.24

As my first post to this forum I have two questions regarding the latest version of Nero Recode (2.1.1.24) and Nero Digital video output:

1. I would like to know what the claimed differences are in perceived MP4 output picture quality (if any) between the following Nero Digital Profiles: Maximum Definition - Cinema - Standard and HDTV. The Nero Recode documentation doesn't mention anything about these settings.

2. Does Nero Recode having the ability to do batch conversion of multiple videos to Nero Digital (along the lines of AutoGK for XviD and DivX)? If not, is this feature on the list of furture improvements?

Thanks, in advance.

Hi Rizlaw,

Welcom to CDRLABS.

Ahead, along with Ateme, have been working very closely with the CE Manufacturers to ensure that content created by Recode is 100% compatible with their devices. The Definitions for Cinema, HDTV, Mobile, Portable, were defined by the CE Manufacturers and emplemented by us so that it ensures 100% playback compatibility on their devices.
It's not a case of Cinema is better than HDTV, etc. Its a case of if you are going to playback on a DVD Player that supports Cinema, you would want to use the profile instead of say HDTV, Stanard, or Maximum Definition.

As for Batch Encoding, Nero Recode 2.1x already supports this. You can add MPEG, AVI, VOB, etc files and then convert them all at once to MPEG4(Nero Digital)

Craig

Craig,

Your answer is a little confusing to me.

1. I understand that CE devices like an HP Pocket PC might need a specially compressed file, hence the "mobile" profile. But, are you also saying, that if you currently encode all your movies to Nero Digital MP4 format using the "Maximum Definition" profile for playback on a computer, that these MP4 movies, if later copied to blank dvd-/+r, will NOT playback on some future standalone DVD player that supports Nero Digital MP4 format since the MP4s were not encoded using the "Cinema" profile?

Thanks, again.

Hi Rizlaw,

No, they would play back.

What I am saying is that if you have a DVD Player with the Cinema feature, then by encoding the video using the Cinema Profile you will get a much better experience. The resolution and many other factors are 'tuned' to the Cinema experience.

Same applies to all the other profiles.
