Can't launch Nero Cover Designer from Burning Rom 6.6.0.5

Logged on as a normal user (doesn't have administrator rights), if I try to launch the Cover Designer from Nero Burning Rom 6.6.0.5, I get an error dialog that just says "Internal Error". I then get the following error dialog:

The instruction at "0x7c8106c3" referenced memory at "0x7c9f62fa". The memory could not be "written".

If I run Nero Burning Rom as administrator (right-click on Nero.exe, select runas... and enter administrator account username and password), the Cover Designer can be launched successfully.

I did not experience this problem before 6.6.0.5. I have tried uninstalling, cleaning and reinstalling, but still get the problem.

Have you tried the latest Nero 6.6.0.6 to see if this shows the same issue?

You will not be able to use Nero Express or Nero Burning ROM to create disc's unless you are logged in as Admin, have Admin rights, or used Nero BurnRights to create a user group with rights.

Craig

Yes, I just tired 6.6.0.6, and this still fails with the same error.

I have Nero Burn Rights installed, and my normal user account is a member of the nero group.

I just tested Nero 6.6.0.5 on a system where a created a user Group called 'Nero' and assigned the group with Admin rights. And when I launch Nero Cover Designer, it launches without any error messages, and allows us to create and print labels to the Networked printer.

Could you use the Nero clean tool to remove our software from your system, and then install Nero 6.6.0.3 or Nero 6.6.0.1 and see if this issue still occurs on your systems?

I just tried a complete uninstall, including uninstalling Nero Burn Rights, as this fixed an installation problem once before.

I ran all the clean tools I could find, and then reinstalled Nero Burn Rights followed by all the Nero packages.

I still get exactly the same error.

Incidentally, I have some other minor gripes about the installation process:

1. Nero Burn Rights does not allow me to change the installation path, so although I have Nero, NVE, NMP and InCD in P:\System Tools\Ahead, Nero Burn Rights always has to install to C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero Burn Rights.

2. The default install folder for Nero packages is C:\Program Files\Ahead. I thought Ahead was no more! Shouldn't this be C:\Program Files\Nero for new clean installations?

3. Nero Shortcuts on the Start menu go straight into All Programs\Nero. As I have so many applications, etc, I put applications into groups under All Programs. It would be nice if the installer allowed the path to the shortcut group to be specified. Other installer sosftware packages allow this.

4. When installing the Nero package, it creates a "Nero 6 Demo" shortcut group, even though it picks up my serial number during installation (I assume this means the clean tool isn't actually cleaning some registry keys somewhere!). As a result, after running Nero Burning Rom the first time, it creates another "Nero 6" shortcut group, leaving the demo group behind too. Especially annoying after I have moved the shortcuts to a different path after point 3 above.

I posted practically the same time as Craig!

Just to clarify, I have been uninstalling the software components, and then running the Nero 6 CleanTool, Driver Clean Tool, Registry Checker, General Clean Tool, InCD Clean Tool (there seem to be various clean tools - which ones should I need to run)?

Is this the correct thing to be doing, or should I simply run the clean tools with the packages installed - does this make a difference, because I find the serial number and other things such as user defined papaer stocks have been retained when I reinstall the packages.

I reinstalled Nero 6.6.0.6 and got the same error. Where do I get previous versions from - I foolishly deleted my old install downloads.

Yes, the ESD (electronic software download) does not allow you to specify where to install the software. We do allow this when installing from the Nero Installation CD.

I will make a request to change this feature in our ESD.

And we are still 'cleaning' up our software over the Name change, so that will eventually be resolved.

I'm very curious to see if the older version of Nero 6.6.0.1 or Nero 6.6.0.3 resolves your issue with BurnRights.

Craig

I only saw this problem when I upgraded from Nero 6.6.0.3 to Nero 6.6.0.5, so I assume there was some issue with the new version, and by degrading, this problem would be fixed (I had a clean installation of 6.6.0.3 prior to the upgrade).

I've not searched our FTP site to see where this may be still available, but there are others who have this still posted for you and others to download.

You can use the below link to download Nero 6.6.0.3 to see if the issue is then resolved. Please post your results, so that I can add this the bug report I will create once I have all the information.

I tried that link, but the three download sites link back to nero ftp sites that don't respond - I assume the downloads have been pulled from the ftp servers.

Sorry, looks like the only previous versions I can find are Nero 6.3

I'll just have to generate a bug report on this issue and hope that with what information we have, our Engineers are able to duplicate the issue without any problems.

Craig

I was worried that when I tried to uninstall then clean, reboot and re-install, that it still remembered by serial no, user-defined paper stock types, etc.

Perhaps I should try a complete clean again, just in case? What are the exact steps I should try to ensure a complete clean re-install?

Has anyone else here experienced my problem?

At the moment I can live with right-clicking on Nero burning rom and launching the application as administrator, but it is a bit of a pain.

If you use the Nero General Clean tool, it will remove any references to your previous installations.

If you have already done this, that is all you need to do.

It would be nice to know if anyone else is able to duplicate this issue. I've generated a bug report for this issue.

Craig

I did run the Nero General Clean tool, and I did not lose my preferences (well, not the licence key and paper stocks - not sure about the actual Nero Burning ROM preferences).

I believe this is perhaps because I uninstalled the applications and then ran Nero General Clean.

Is there a way of backing up my user-defined paper stocks before cleaning, as I don't really want to set the paper types up again?
