Couldn't it be an optimization from the RAID implementation of the board? (Just guessing/asking)

dunno.
the motherboard (Asus A7N8X-Deluxe) has a Silicone Image Sil 3112A SATA Controller and supports RAID 0/1. but currently i have the SATA disabled (jumper on the motherboard).

i also have a Siig PCI ATA RAID card (combo card actually). the controller is seen in the screenshot. but no drives attached to it right now.

Did you use NeroInfoTool 3.01 from cdspeed2000.com ?

Did you check in Configuration Panel/System/Peripherals bla bla... if there are
- 2 IDE Primary
or - one Primary one Secondary.

If there are 2 IDE Primary, try to uninstall the bad one and restart Windows.

yes, InfoTool 3.01

Device Manager reports Primary and Secondary IDE Channels.

i should re-enable SATA with the jumper on the motherboard see if it makes a difference.

Maybe you can try to delete Nero CD-DVD Speed registry keys and try again ? HKLM/Software/ahead/Nero Toolkit/CD Speed

Or maybe an ASPI/SPTI/patin couffin weird problem (compatibility issue with such a driver). Dunno... ?

Does it also report two Secondary IDE Channels?

I would suspect that you do have two Primary and Secondary IDE Channels. A number of boards these days do have this.

no.
the board has one ATA controller that has one Primary and one Secondary IDE channels.
for some reason disabling the on-board SATA RAID controller did that.

here are two InfoTool screenshots. two HDs on the Primary IDE channel of the motherboard's ATA controller.

since the only difference to the system between taking these 2 screenshots is changing the SATA_en jumper on the motehrboard, i'm sure that has something to do with this weird thing.

i'm not sure it's a bug in InfoTool. possibly a bug in the BIOS ?
