noob question: settings for a DATA DVD ?

what are the correct/best settings for creating a DATA DVD in Nero 6 ?
what compilation type is best: DVD-ROM(ISO), DVD-ROM(UDF) or DVD-ROM(UDF/ISO)?
does DVD-ROM(UDF/ISO) contain all the ISO information as in DVD-ROM(ISO) ?
which version of UDF ? the default appears to be 1.02, should i stick with that ? what are (if any) advantages (for a data disc) of the other versions ?

I'm no expert and hopefully CCampbell will chime in:
DVD-Video uses UDF 1.02,most standalone DVD players support ISO(joliet) or UDF 1.02. UDF/ISO makes a joliet bridge and there's no reason to use UDF/ISO unless you intend to use the disc on Win95 or Win98,Win98SE->present support UDF 1.02. UDF 1.5 and higher is for packet writing(eg InCD,DirectCD,etc) and only WinXP/2000 support it natively.One advantage of using UDF is the longer file names(128 characters),another is files >4GB.
I only use UDF 1.02 for DVD's and I never use packet writing.

OK i want to make a data DVD (= to be read only on a computer) and readable under WinXP.
should i use ISO/UDF or only UDF?
which version of UDF should i use?

<rant>
Nero's documentation is seriously lacking.
old, outdated, incomplete, bad links, etc.
really, they (ahead) think of themselves as the leaders of burning software, i would expect better documentation. i'm pissed off.

Use UDF 1.02 for DVD's,UDF 1.5-2.01 is for CD's.
Again there's no harm in using UDF/ISO for data.
More facts:
ISO9660(level 1)=2GB file limit/11 characters
ISO9660(level 2 or 3)=2GB limit/32 characters
Joliet=4GB file limit/64 characters
UDF 1.02=32GB limit/128 characters
UDF 1.5-2.01=same as 1.02
UDF 2.5/2.6(HD-DVD/Blu-Ray)=1 TB limit?/255 characters

thanks burninfool for the replies.

2GB file limit for ISO ??? and 4GB limit for Joliet ??? never heard that!!

OK there's no harm in using ISO/UDF. is there any advantage to it over plain UDF ?

in Nero the options for UDF filesystem are 1.02, 1.50, 2.00, 2.01.

still not clear on which version of UDF is best to use.

Hi Everyone,

I've posted this one before some time back, but instead of going over all the variations again, let's just keep it simple.

For your standard Data DVD, and only if you wish to go with UDF, go with UDF 1.02. :D

Regards,

Craig

thanks for the reply Craig, but sorry it still doesn't answer all of my questions.
you said you posted this before? i can't recall. searched the forum and didn't find it. do you have the link ?

let me state my questions again:
1. what is the difference between using DVD-ROM(ISO), DVD-ROM(UDF) or DVD-ROM(UDF/ISO) for creating a data DVD? what are the advantages of any of these ? what are the disadvantages ?
2. when using UDF, i gather you recommend 1.02 ? what are the other newer versions for ?
