Hi guys, Im new here and was wondering if you can help me out. I have a BenQ DW1640 DL 16x dvd burner & a standard sony cdr/rw burner.

I have recently been having problems with my BenQ DW1640. When I try to burn any type of media, the program winds up freezing and it also causes my comp to freeze. The only way to reboot is to use the comps reset button.

Im using memorex dvd-r media 8x & verbatim dvd+r 16x.

I installed all the latest drivers and firmware for the BenQ DW1640 and all the latest tools from nero and no luck.

I have windows xp (sp2) 1ghz with 512 memory, the sony works fine.

Any suggestions would be appreciated..

Have you tried removing Nero completely and clean the system using the cleaning tool that Nero provides?

After you have cleaned the system, try installing the latest version of Nero.

If still the computer freezes, try using the drive on some other computer. And post back the results.

Thanks for the response, I searched the forums and tried all suggestions including yours and no luck. I installed some other programs and same thing. I wound up formatting the hard drive and I am in the process of re-installing windows xp. I will see if it happens again with a clean install. I will post my results.

Thanks again

I think reinstalling Windows XP will definitely solve your problem.
