Since I've been having some trouble with my Nero WAV editor, I'm looking for a basic program that can do trimming, fades, cut & paste, gain, etc. I don't want something with 128 tracks and all the bells and whistle, I have my Pro Tools for that - a simple stereo editor will do just fine (God, please bring back Sound Designer). It's not worth it for me to create a bunch of Pro Tools sessions just to make a CDR compilation.

Have a look at audacity. It's open source and runs under Linux as well as Windows. :D
