Nero 7 InCD and other Problems

1. I purchased and downloaded Nero 7. The web page says InCD 5 is included. It isn't!!!! A letter from tech support says it is not included in the "standard" download (whatever that is) and proceeds to tell me how to get it from the Smart Start menu:

“The standard installation of Nero 7 does not automatically install InCD.
Follow the step below to install InCD:
In Nero StartSmart select
>Nero Tool Kit
>Nero ProductSetup
>Modify your Nero Products
Go through the "Nero Installation Wizard", the application InCD can now be installed by a right-click on the InCD option.”

But these instructions take you to a place where InCD isn't mentioned. There is no place on their web site to download it.

2. When I downloaded the (then) latest version of Nero 7 (Nero-7.0.1.4b_eng.exe) it wouldn't install. A message said that it was already running and must be shut down. Nothing was running! I shut down everything except Explorer and Systray, as well as stopping the virus scan and firewall. I finally used the clean tool prior to installation and it installed ok (I think?!).

3. The backup tool would not make a boot floppy in the A: drive. It returned the message "Copy image process has failed".

4. I downloaded the latest version--Nero-7.0.1.4b_eng_no_yt.exe--and nothing has changed.

Can anyone offer any help?

according to the download page
http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/nero7-up.php
i uderstand that the 'Nero-7.0.1.4b_eng_no_yt.exe' file (100MB) includes the InCD inside it, you don't have to download it seperately.
the instasller should let you choose to install it.

Download the Nero 7 General Clean tool, uninstall Nero, reboot, run the General Clean tool, reboot, install Nero and InCD off 7.0.1.4b.

When you open 7014b or any of the other "updates" you are presented with a menu which includes "Modify, Repair or Remove'. "Modify" takes you to another menu which includes all of the features in Nero 7 EXCEPT InCD: Nero Start Smart, Nero Burning ROM, N Home, N. Vision, N. Show Time, N. Recode, N. MediaHome, N. BackItUp, N. Cover Designer, N. Photo Snap, N. Wave Editor, N. Sound Trax, N. Image Drive, Tools and Special Features. There is no InCD option.

Have you clicked the small down arrow next to InCD in the install menu you speak of? InCD does have a red X next to it as it is not installed by default. If you click the small black down arrow next to InCD a menu SHOULD drop down and give you a choice to install InCD. It does on mine anyway.(7.0.1.4b included)

With all the statements made on this packet writing software and the fact that I have been burned by Roxio's Direct CD I don't bother with it anymore. I had problems with InCD in 6.6 and rewritable cd's also.

Good luck. I hope you can get it installed as I believe you should have it available.

I have 3 different versions of the Nero 7 software: Nero-7.0.1.4_eng.exe, Nero-7.0.1.4b_eng.exe and Nero-7.0.1.4_eng_no_yt.exe. All three behave the same way. All present the same menu choices as in my previous post and NONE offer InCD. Either use the "custom" choice or the regular "install" choice--no difference.

Considering the responses, maybe the installation software is platform sensitive, i.e. OK for Windows xp and not for Windows Me. I don't intend to use it in my Me system but want to wring it out and get familiar before installing it in my new XP system. As it stands right now, I wouldn't want to install a buggy application that leaves snivets of code all over that won't uninstall in a new computer.

I don't have much faith in the General Clean Tool. I got different response when using it versus restoring a clean OS that had never seen Nero in any form.

You are correct, the Clean Tool still leaves some 'residue' behind. But, I think you should use it if you reinstall, IMO.
