It very well could be. Happened in the past i.e. version loaded on FTP that was for a specific drive.

what would make it so different if made for a benq drive?

perhaps Nero supports a feature available only on that particular drive.

It is amazing last night CCampbell Nero Rep in Glendale, CA spent some times to answer atleast five thread on this forum but he did not bother to answer this simple question that every Nero user entitle to know. I guest this is one of those weird thing from Nero to post a 140MB software version and give no clue to the users what is it for.

it's not on Nero's website, you're not officially supposed to know about it.
read this as well:

BTW Craig answered 24 topics, very commendable!
thank you Craig. we appreciate it.

Are you saying the following link is not belong to Nero site?, I don't understand it may be you should look and read one more time:

ftp://ftp1.usw.nero.com/oem/Benq/Nero-6.6.0.19b.exe

Answering consumers and users question is the manufacturers Reps responsibility, don't go over the board praise the Rep for not answering the question. If the product is avaiable to the users ti download they have the right to know what is it for?.

what can i say?
i don't like your tone.

1. i said the link is not on Nero's website. unless you show me wrong, i believe that to be true still. the URL you gave is not on Nero's website www.nero.com , but rather on a ftp server. is there a link to it from Nero's website/download page ?

Nero did not publicize this on their website. you chose to browse the ftp server and found some files there. and now you DEMAND an explanation? if Nero wanted to make this public they would've put it on their website, but they didn't. i don't see that they owe you any explanation as to files you may happen to find on their ftp site, uninvited. you don't have a "right" to know about everything on Nero's ftp server.

2. Answering consumers and users question is the manufacturers Reps responsibility, yes that's true. so if you want an answer from a Rep contact a Nero rep on a conventional channel (phone, email, etc.). the way i see it, Nero doesn't have an obligation to anoswer your questions posted on a public forum. you may feel otherwise.
having Craig Campbell visit this forum and answer our questions is a bonus, a feather in Nero's cap so to speak. AFAIK he is under no obligation to answer questions here.

3. i don't think i went overboard in praising Craig. you were inaccurate - you said he posted answers to 'at least' 5 threads. in actual fact he posted answers to 24. i counted 'em. i think that's a very good job on his part so i said so. you may feel otherwise. i'm cool with that.

4. i don't know why Craig chose not to answer your question. he may have his reasons. in any case i made abundently clear my opinion as to him not having to answer your particular question. i hardly think bitching about it will help.

i'm curious as to why Nero 6.6.0.19b is 140MB (!!!) whereas 6.6.0.18 is just 32MB.

For those with inquireing minds... :D

I did not respond to this because I did not know the answer. I do know this is not a build requested for any OEMs we have in the U.S.

We are constantly making builds for OEMs to address speacial features or changes, some of which is confidential and not something we want or can inform the users about.

I do have a query into our team in Germany to find out what this was for, and it's very possible that I will get an answer that I can not share to the public.

So once I have the answer, I will provide what information I can, even if it's 'Sorry, this is confidental and should not be used by anyone'.

There are some other threads I have yet to respond to as well. And the reason I failed to respond to them was because I had a long day already and I needed to rest. But I will get to them as well in the coming days, or even today. :-)

And I'm 98% sure the reason why the file size is so large as compared to Nero 6.6.0.18 on the website is because this build more than likely includes all 27 language files, whereas the download on our website has only 1 language file supported.

Best Regards,

Craig

Craig; Thank you so much for prompt and polite response to this thread, this version (6.6.o.19b) is widely being discussed at BenQ forum at CDFreaks.com and is already being used by substantial user. Although I am active member of that site but due to my long standing membership in this forum and knowing you that always here to help and provide guidance for Nero user I thought I should seek answer here that so many users are anxious to hear about this version, its applicability and its usefulness. Again thank you for looking in to this matter.

Well, it's as I suspected. The difference in file size is due to the Nero 6.6.0.19b build having all languages included in the build.

And this is a confidential build for an OEM and I would strongly recommend that you not use this build.

And I have to say the below statement officially:

The Nero FTP1 is not something End users should be using, and will not be supported by our Tech Support team in any way.

---------------

I know users have been connecting to this FTP1 site for some time, and in some cases you did find some useful build to download. Just be aware this is not meant for End Users as some of these builds could and are Beta versions.

Regards,

Craig
