Update Nero 6 or install 7?

I have Nero 6 ver. 6.6.0.1.3 which I see can be updated to the most recent 6.6.1.4.

I recently purchased @ Best Buy for$49.99 Nero 7 Ultra Enhanced, but have not yet opened the box.

I also bought 2 new DVD burners that I am about to install in my computer, a Plextor 760A and a Pioneer DVR-710.

A couple of questions please...

Would I be better off updating the Nero 6, as I have had VERY few problems with that version, or installing the Nero 7?

If I update the 6, do I need to uninstall and clean the old version first using the Nero Cleaner?

If I should keep the Nero 7, do I uninstall the 6 using the cleaner and then use the new program disc? Or.... download the latest version of 7 and use the serial # from the disc?

Would I have had to register the 7 first?

On other review sites and forums it has seemed that 7 has been a big problem for many. I want to keep things as simple as possible and avoid those problems.

Any input before I start my new burner install would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Curt

Flip a coin! Quite a number of people on the various forums say they will NOT upgrade to 7 because 6 is working too well for them. If your needs are basic burning etc.I would suggest upgrade the 6 version. I upgraded several 6 versions over the top of older ones and had no problems. Some others had problems that way. It is a crapshoot. Try uninstalling first using the clean tool from Nero. Nothing like a fresh canvas.
On the other side of the coin, there are a couple of versions of 7 that are stable and cause no problems. Some versions are VERY buggy. If you surf this site and another at www.afterdawn.com you will find a zillion pros and cons to each version. In the end it is up to you to decide
As far as installing Nero 7, run the clean tool, download the current version from the website and use your serial number that's in your CD when it comes to the page where it shows a serial number on the screen. Delete that one and insert your own. I have the 7.5.7.0 installed and have had two small glitches.....nothing to sour me too much. "IF" you don't like 7, just uninstall it and go back to 6 and re-install it. Anyway.....search a little while and read some posts but with all that, I still think you should toss a coin. You have a 50 /50 chance of getting a good version :D

If it matters at all to you, I'm still using Nero 6.

Thanks corporallouis for the detailed and informative reply!

Ian and Spazmogen, yes indeed it does say a lot that you guys are still using 6.

I don't do a heck of a lot of cd burning and when I am doing DVDs it is mostly when I am using AnyDVD/ CloneDVD2 anyway. Soooo for the time being it seems that I'll just get the $50 back! and stick with what has up until now more than met my needs.

Thanks guys!

I've been doing a bunch of MP3 burns using the Lame plug in with Nero 7.
I've had no issues.
I can't recall if the Lame is available in Nero 6 as I've just started to use it.
