Nero 7.10w Essentials

So far I have crashed without burning anything about five times. I am using Windows XP Pro, SP2.
I have had numerous times that my system locks up. I can't ge the thing to work right since installing it. I have other software for reading and writing, would that affect Nero, is there a conflict?
Or is it the gui is not being recognized by windows?
Is there a patch?
