Losing sound quality from tape to CD? I was always under the impression that because they were digital, CD's sounded better.

You're going to lose something and gain some undesirables (tape hiss) in the transition. Your better off if you have those old 78 vinyls and using a turntable through a Griffin iMic... or better yet, pick up a USB turntable if you still have enough vinyls to justify the cost of one of those.

Never used Nero SoundTrax, it does have wizards... Long ago I used CoolEdit, but Adobe bought them out and have a very expensive product... the name slips my mind... Audacity works for the little I need to convert my tapes and vinyl anymore.

SoundTrax might be your best choice for the wizards.

If you have a decent sound card and don't set the recording level so high the sound clips, you shouldn't be able to tell the difference.
