This doesn't make since to me. The last version I download and installed is Nero 7.9.6.0. This states 7.10.1.0.

Why does not make sense to you the version 7.10.1.0 is next version of 7.9.60.0.

Ok, I see it now. When I first saw the version number I thought it went from 7.9 down to 7.1 (or in another way 79 to 71). To me the next version would have been 8.0 (from 7.9). :o

I'm getting ready to install Nero 7 on my new hard drive. I take it the procedure is to install the original version 7.0 from the CD and then to install the latest upgrade version 7.10.1.0?

This is a new hard drive with a clean install of windows xp and drivers. I have some programs installed and there is many more programs to still install. I haven't installed Nero 7 yet on this hard drive. On my old hard drive, I have installed each Nero 7 update on top of the previous one. (I never had any problems with that).

You should be able to install any Nero downloaded from the website on a computer as a clean install. Just use your serial number from your original Nero 7 CD/box/etc... I've had no problems installing Nero 6 on a freshly formatted computer using the latest one off the website without incremental updates.

Well, I had some time today to finally install Nero 7.10.1.0. I started by installing the original version 7 from the CD and entering my serial number. Rebooted the pc and started the install for 7.10.1.0. It started to install and then I got a popup that in order to continue, it had to uninstall the "older version" first. This is weird, since on my old hard drive, after I installed the original version of 7, I was downloading the updates and installing them on top of each other. No problems whatsoever doing that. This time, the latest version 7.10.1.0 wants to uninstall the previous version before installing this update. Really weird. So I now have the lastest version 7.10.1.0 installed.

Installed the newest version of CD-DVD Speed and the last update (version 4.5) of Nero PhotoShow Express that I have saved (I don't know if there any newer versions of this). I still have about 3 major programs still to install and some smaller ones - I don't know when I get around to installing these.
